Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snowboard lessons in Tignes

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

I'm looking for a good and cheap recommendation for lessons in tignes. We need our girlfriends trained on how to board Smile

Does anyone know of cheap school or if there are instructors that will do private work?

Cheers

Alliance Snowboarding will do private lessons and are really good. I did group lessons with them a couple of weeks ago at intermediate plus level and found them excellent - the best yet. They were doing private lessons in the afternoon, not sure about prices.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Cheap + lessons = Laughing

But Alliance come highly recommended, as above.

Otherwise, you could try Nico Glize, based in Val d'Isere or Ed at New Generation (also based in Val).

alliance are exceptional. i know ppl who had beginner/early intermediate lessons with them (i think it was with simon), and i myself have done their intermediate lessons (with renelle). both times they were given excellent feedback. cost was £145 for 12 hours of group lessons in jan 2010. see here for my review.

enjoy your holiday! snowHead

sherlock235, Good review, but hidden under a "ski" title which being the lazy slacker I am I would never have spotted. How about we have an equivalent "Recommended Snowboard Instructors" thread under the Snowboarding section possibly sticky too?

Another vote for Alliance, did 4 day option last week, really relaxed but excellent teaching. Will even help out with a bit of freestyle!

Our very own Rorie is an ESF ski and boarding instructor and does private lessons. Rorie is one of a very few English instructors to make the ESF grade.

It would workout more than the 4 day course but that was in groups of 6-10 when I saw them last week.

Break even would be 2 days of 3 hours with Rorie, for two people, but I suspect you would progress very quickly in such a small group.

If favouring multi day group lessons, Alliance are about the best in the Alps.

Agreed.... Alliance are the tops!
I treated myself to a full-day private lesson 2 years ago.
They broke down my year-old riding style in about an hour, and had me shaping my turns properly in no time.
Later that morning, we were carving the hell out some cruisy blues, before heading down the face to Val for lunch.
After lunch, more progression, flatland tricks, riding switch
And then, just before home-time.... box slides and kickers in the park.
They adapted the days lesson perfectly to keep it challenging yet fun and engaging!
Altogether, awesome!

Another vote for Alliance. Pretty similar to Steve's post above, had a great week with Si from Alliance, group lesson for 2 hours a day and went right back to basics to carving in a couple of days to the park at the end of the week. Been riding for over 10 years on and off but it really helped, lots of bad habits ironed out. By the end of the week everything was so much more stacked, riding twice as fast and comfortable with it.

Thanks for updating that Steve, my post was from early 2011.

I have booked Rorie for my gf's private lessons, later this week.
