Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Solo skier looking to join a group 7-11 Feb

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi,

I have an unexpected few days off from 7-11 Feb.
Looking to join a group, small or large. Any resort in Europe/Alps is fine.

I'm male, mid-20s, good fun. Based in London. My skiing ability is intermediate; have done black runs fine before, but not been skiing for a very long time now. Looking for a good mixture of ski/apres-ski.

Budget is flexible: don't mind luxury/high end, but just as happy with something cheaper. Self-catering accomodation would be preferred as I'm a veggie.

Open to all suggestions, so get in touch! Thanks.

Welcome to snowHeads rpm2011, snowHead

Have you checked out the S7BB, snowHeads Birthday Bash to Arabba?
It's the week you want to go and we'll sort out the room-shares. We're kind of full now, but I have some flexibility with how we use the rooms so could include you if you're happy to share a triple.

The snow's good there at the moment.
The food in the hotel is very good so I don't expect they'd have trouble catering for a veggie.

Gimme a shout if you're interested: PM Admin
As things stand and for the next day or two, I can still include you in our plans.

Hi admin,

that certainly looks like a lot of fun. I'm assuming as there are many going, there will be skiers of varying abilities?

Unfortunately, my dates are quite inflexible: I work every weekend . I can't leave until mon 7th feb, and must be back home by the evening of fri 11th or early morning sat 12th.

Yes quite a few, 53 at the last count Shocked
And yes, the whole range of abilities. People tend to split into smaller groups that suit their pace and mood then various groups will hook up for coffee/lunch/beer/gluhwein/bombardinos on the mountain. There's always someone going at your pace - whether ski-pace or drinking-pace Wink

That's a rather awkward working arrangement - I thought you meant you had those days off and just assumed that you would have the weekend too Confused

Hey

I'm a mid 20's female snow boarder and just booked a week at Soldeu, Andorra. There's a few good packages out there atm, so check it out and if you are keen on skiing there drop me a line. There's a few more solo skiiers joining me that are interested in sharing accom and I could put you in touch.

Cheers,

Tonia

Hi,

If you're happy to travel alone, please take a look at our chalet - link in my tag line.

The chalet is catered, but we happily do veggie food and we have some single rooms, so no single supplement. Monday arrival, Friday departure is no problem, and the price is just £299 pp.

Please get in touch if you're keen.

Best wishes,
Heather

Hi Tonia,
The problem for me with Andorra is it's a long way from the airport - the nearest airport being Barcelona? It is apparently at least 3 hours transfer time. Given how short my trip is, I wouldn't want to waste so much time in a minibus.

Heather, I guess the same problem arises with La Plagne - I believe it is approx 3 hours from Geneva, with Chambery seemingly only operating flights at weekends?

Ideal for me would be somewhere within 60-90 minutes of an airport. e.g. near Chamonix which is close to Geneva.

How easy would it be for me to find people to ski with if I just turn up at a resort? Having not skied for quite some time now, I wouldn't be confident enough to hit the slopes alone - plus I don't think it would be much fun! And it would be nice to meet up with someone for a beer or two in the evening.

Anyway, I'll see if I get any more responses in the next few hours, then have to make a decision. Thanks for your replies.

Hi,

Sorry - only just seen your reply so this might be way too late!!

If you are still looking at the Tarentaise then BA do mid-week flights from London city to Chambery. They work out at around £150 return inc taxes, luggage etc etc at the moment which is great.

From Chambery there are then public transport links with most of the Tarentaise resorts including Bourg Sainte Maurice which is our nearest big town.

Hope that helps??

Best wishes,
Heather

Having checked the forecasts and snow reports, have decided to avoid France and go to Austria instead. Most probably will book the flight later today - still good availability and reasonable prices Happy

Am trying to choose between 3 resorts close to Innsbruck: St Anton, Solden and Kitzbuhel.

St Anton seems the biggest, with varying difficulty levels, plus very good nightlife.

Solden has had fresh snow this week.

In Kitzbuhel there are one or two apparently good hostels, so would be convenient place for meeting people to ski/apres ski with.

Anyone got any good accomodation suggestions for solo skiers in St Anton or Solden?
If I can't find anything today I'll book one of the places in Kitzbuehel, which seem to be available.

Thanks.

Ended up choosing St Anton and literally booked everything about 90 minutes before heading to the airport!

Don’t regret it at all though, had a fantastic time. Chose a hotel in the centre of St Anton which was expensive, but very convenient.

Finding people to ski with/drink with was not a problem at all, and I met a very friendly English group of similar ability who I skied with for a couple of days.

Given the lack of recent snow, the pistes were in pretty good condition. It was very warm. Some of the runs were quite hard and icy, but most in reasonable shape. The best skiing was over in Lech, a short bus ride away and included in the skipass. I believe it was due to snow this weekend, so conditions might have improved now.

There is excellent skiing for intermediates, lots of choice. It’s a big resort.

The après-ski on the slopes is pretty crazy! And some decent bars in town as well. Generally friendly and unpretentious.

I have a couple of gripes: (1) Someone needs to go through all the runs and regrade them: some of the blues were very challenging, while some of the reds and blacks were a piece of wee wee. (2) It’s fairly expensive, especially ski hire and equipment. 5 Euros for a beer on average, not sure how that compares to other resorts but seemed a lot.

Overall, would definitely consider going back.

Am considering another short trip in early April, but to a different resort, maybe in France. Will keep an eye on this forum as well.

Cheers.

Hi,

Sounds like you had a great time - glad you enjoyed it. Fingers crossed for snow across the alpes this week which should help us preserve the base well into April.

Happy skiing!
