Team Evolution Press Release: Team Evolution athletes continue to lead the way
The final week of January has seen Team Evolution athletes compete at numerous International competitions throughout Europe, continuing to lead the way against their peers. Leaving the St Johann training base, the Junior athletes embarked for Les Crosets & Chambery in Switzerland while Darcie Mead represented the Team Evolution Children’s Squad as a member of the British Team that headed to the Boruffa Trophy in Andorra.
The Junior athletes of Hannah Bilgore, Sam Clissold, and Max Baggio have been working hard throughout the last month, developing their Giant Slalom and Slalom turn shapes with a focus of adding more control to their already high speed movements. Aiming to continue their good form from the BARSC Championships and recent competitions in Slovenia, all the athletes brought a lot more composure and confidence to these International events off of the back of their solid skiing in Austria.
The race conditions in Les Crosets were perfect for racing, with hard snow and blue skies from start to finish. The results ultimately showed what the Team Evolution athletes are capable of, as Hannah Bilgore finished as the 3rd Junior 2 Brit in the Giant Slalom, scoring one of the best results in her career. Max Baggio and Sam Clissold fought off fierce competition in the Slalom event from other Junior athletes, including each other, achieving 1st and 2nd respectively. Up against some very good Junior racers from Italy, France, and Switzerland, with several years more experience, the Team Evolution pair showed level heads to take on their peers and finish with personal best points scores.
Whilst the Juniors successfully demonstrated their skills on the Swiss race slopes, Darcie Mead continued to show why she is Great Britain’s Number 1 ranked female Child. Over four days of highly competitive racing, in both the speed and technical disciplines, Darcie consistently took top 5 positions against some of the best under 15 skiers from France, Austria and Switzerland. Finishing the Boruffa Trophy as the top seeded British athlete and one of the top five International entries, the young skier from Surbiton High School is starting to show form reminiscent of her idol, Chemmy Alcott.
Over the course of racing the Team Evolution athletes stood up to the plate and demonstrated a mature style of racing, showing that they have taken on board their personal targets from training. The camaraderie of the athletes is impressive, not only to the support staff, but for other teams and athletes, many of whom look up to the Team Evolution athletes as examples of success within an exceedingly tough sport. They all conducted themselves in a professional manner in order to achieve great results, including multiple PB’s, which will undoubtedly stand them in good stead for the progress throughout the remainder of the season and their future careers.
