Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

When & where - 1-2 hrs from zurich for a weekend

Hi.

Apologies for the vague request but don't know where to start!!

I am in a fortunate position of living in Zurich for work and my colleagues in the UK have tasked me to arrange a ski weekend in February/March. The only issue is I have never done any wintersport....haven't even seen a ski slope before!!

Anyway I hope you kind folk could point me in the right direction of which resorts would be good for a beginnner/intermediate and be within 2 hours (approx) drive - think it would be cheaper to hire a minibus to get there then individual train tickets.

Suggested plan - arrive friday afternoon/evening, ski/snowboard - all day saturday, sunday - ski/snowboard until lunch then go back to zurich

Resorts that I think may fit the bill (purely for my own googling and researching this website) are

Interlaken
Laax
Flums
Arosa

However any other resorts are appreciated. Also any help with arranging accomadation for 15-25 people (non couple) adults or again suggestion with a webiste/specialist travel operator would be great.

Hope this is ok and thank you in advance.

shak, Welcome to Snowheads. I've been to Laax but by train from Zurich, there is also a coach transfer from the airport. Trip report here. Flims is also part of the same area. I believe there are smaller ski areas closer but don't know any of them.

Been to Arosa, lovely resort, snow sure, great mountain train ride to get to the resort that stops right in center of town next to gondola, no cars and horse drawn carriages on the streets and up the mountain.

Flumserberg is only just over 1hours drive and is never that busy, Stoos is also very close though accomodation for that many may be a issue. There are bunk house \ Dorm type places in lots of the swiss resorts, but don't know any particular websites.

have a look at the SBB snow and rail offers, might be some worth looking at http://railaway.sbb.ch/snow-n-rail/

Hi. You can take the train from Zurich airport to Lucern then take a small train up to Engelberg. Dead easy takes just over an hour or so. I travel to Sarnen every few weeks which is nearly the same journey. Not skied there though.

We have friends that live in Zurich, and their all time favourite weekend skiing is Arosa. Have not been ourselves, but they always rave about the ease of traveling there and the lovely family skiing. they even go for a day some weekends.

I think braunwald is also doable with a train change. Its where a lot of schools go, has easyish runs and is interesting as the only way to get up is by a sort of railway tram, brilliant views

shak, we've done ski weekends in Arosa, Engelberg and Flumserberg travelling via Zurich airport and all are certainly worth a visit. For beginners/intermediates I'd go for Arosa or Flumserberg and keep Engelberg until you've a bit more experience under your skis.

Flumserberg would be a more budget option but if your group want nightlife then Arosa would be better
