Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm afraid I haven't read all this thread - but a few general comments which may have been made already.
The snow-line tends to be lower as you head east from France through Austria.
Swiss and Austrian resorts are mostly built around old villages, because in mediaeval times there were tax breaks that encouraged peasants to occupy the high mountain areas (and they are short of lowlands), while most French resorts have been purpose built, mostly since the war, in much emptier mountains and thus are often higher, less picturesque, but with bigger ski areas and a better ratio of lifts to beds, so less lift queues.
Don't even consider Chamonix, it has almost nothing for beginners. Val d'Isere has no easy runs to take you back to the village.
I'd go for La Plagne which has lots of easy skiing and mostly ski-in ski out. It has several villages within a very big area, some quite ugly or very low. I'd go for Belle Plagne which is quite pretty and really up in the mountains.
Mark Warner Chalets are very good, though not as cheap as some.
Don't forget to factor in ski and boot hire (don't buy them), ski school (you'll need it) and lift-pass.
