According to research for the National Ski Areas Association in the US, snowboarding has less risk of ending in serious injury than skiing. Jasper Shealy, a professor emeritus at the Rochester Institute of Technology who has studied such injuries for 40 years, concluded that snowboarders are about 30% less likely to be killed on the slopes than skiers. However, they are 50-70% more likely to get injured....Source and more details: http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2011/jan/17/skiing-snowboarding-study-deaths-injuries

well if those stats are right, given that the chance of being killed on the slope is exceptionally small, I'll go with skiing, thanks.

What an unbelievably poo-poo article. No mention of sample sizes in the 'research'.
And the comments /opinion from the so called experts take inanity to a new low.
None more so than this
[quote]...Skiing columnist Gabriella Le Breton says she has never seen so much snow so early, though the conditions have been changeable "The temperatures have been erratic. I went from minus 33 in Gstaad [Switzerland], to plus 3 degrees in Val d'Isere [France], in a matter of days..."
