Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How much can you bend a ski brake?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have bindings with brakes at 80mm but want to put them on skis that are 88mm in the waist.
Is it possible to bend the brake that much?

Whats the best method for doing this?

Do a search on TGR forums' tech talk (tetongravity.com), and you'll find a video of how to do it. I extended mine from 80 to 100mm. It's very easy once you've had a bit of practice

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Is it still easy to do even if the binding isn't attched to the ski?

No, you can flick the brake out of the binding if the base plate if the plate isn't screwed securely to something, and then it's difficult to get it back in. But you could always screw it down to an 88mm wide plank of wood to bend the brake, then transfer to your ski.

unless your brakes sit really flush with your current skis, you may hardly need to bend them to fit round 88m skis. i use bindings with 110mm brakes on skis with 112mm and 120mm waists without having to do anything more technical than applying a bit of force with my bare hands

I find I can never bend a brake as far as I want to Sad Personally for the cost of a brake I would just buy a proper one! (they tend not to be much more than £20 for most brands)

The problem is they are an older Rossi Axial and i'm having real difficulty getting a wider brake so thought bending just a little could do the job

have you tried them on your skis? as said it's unlikely you will need to bend them for 8mm, i have 100 on 112's without any bother.
