Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Superfeet

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello from a newbie to your great forum.

Just a quick question to see if any of you have used Superfeet Insoles for skiing.

My basic problem that i think i may have is that my feet/skis are turning in to each other whilst i am skiing. I am an intermediate skier having skiied about 5 weeks. Im 37 and approx 14 stone. I can parellel ski but i struggle to make a parallel turn easily, and feel the need to force it or even sort of jump before each turn. Having skiied this week, i looked down at my skis and saw them turning into each other (like a snow plough !) whilst in a straight line. I think this is why an easy parallel turn is difficult.

Has this happened to anyone else and do Superfeet insoles work ? I dont have my own boots so custom made insoles maybe not an option.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Snowheads!!! snowHead

I'm no expert but that maybe something to do with the canting on the boots you've had. I had mine adjusted last year after I was constantly catching my inside edge.

I expect you'll only solve the problem if you buy your own boots that I would seriously recommend. I doubt superfeet willsolve the issue.

gaz1000, great insole for the right person we sell a tonne of them, but as Kersh said you would probably be best served by investing in a set of boots, rental boots will not give you any real form of fit (think bucket with clips on) having aboot fitted and a set of insoles custom made or off the shelf dependant on what your foot requires will advance your skiing and increase your enjoyment of the sport

good luck and welcome to the madhouse Little Angel

Thanks Kersh & CEM for the replies. Do you think the simple problem i seem to have to create a simple parallel move could be down to my inward feet and that a custom boot could solve this ?

Thanks

If you visit a good bootfiter like CEM, they will custom fit your boots for you. Using superfeet of having custom insoles made is all part of that process. Any custom insole willl hold your foot in the correct position inside the boot. The fact you stand on your inside edges maybe due to your knees - again a good bootfitter can make this assessment and give you advice and adjust the boots.

I'd get some boots fitted for your next trip and see how it goes. Trust me, you'll notice the difference over your previous rental boots! snowHead

Good luck

Thanks Kersh again. Sorry to ask another question but what sort of money do you think i will need to invest / squeeze out of Mrs Gaz ? for a custom made set of new boots ?

gaz1000, no probs, that's Snowheads is for!! wink

The cost can vary quite a lot and depend on many things. If you buy boots in the end of season sales then it will be cheaper. I spent close to £400 on my boots about 3 years ago and I got Superfeet with them. Mrs Kersh bought boots at the end of the season last year, spent £240 and got custom footbeds.

The best thing to do is visit a boot fitter with an open mind. They'll measure your feet and recommend some boots based on those dimensions. Whether the boots cost loads or are really cheap, just buy them because they fit! A good example of this was when Mrs Kersh bought ski boots - she needed custom footbeds because her arch was so high, none of the Superfeet fitted. They were much more expensive .... but she needed them. Sold!

It's amazing what modifications can be made to a ski boot to make them fit properly. Before I visited CEM and other boot fitters, I didn't have a clue! rolling eyes

Give CEM a call or pay him a visit if you can ... Devon's a long way from Bicester! snowHead snowHead

Thank you Kersh. I will visit a boot fitter asap to see what they think. I will let you know the outcome. Thanks for your help.

Gaz - I'm sure CEM is great - I've dipped into this forum for a while and CEM comes well recommended - but we are in Devon too, and have had superb service and boot fitting advice (IMHO) from Devon Ski Centre in Newton Abbot. I bought for the first time from there for this season - and skiing in them over Christmas was undoubtedly the most comfortable couple of days I have EVER spent on skis!

I use superfeet insoles for my hiking AND ski boots and find them good as I have the same issue as you by the sound of it - my knee kind of goes inward rather than straight forward?! - superfeet definitely help. I bought the superfeet HOT from Devon Ski which has a reflective foil on the bottom for extra warmth.

Def try the chaps in Newton Abbot. They also have secondhand stuff if you are not wanting to spend too much (although obviously you won't get the custom moulding etc) - but I bought a last year's model and got £50 off which was great. Spent £150 and am really happy with them.

gaz1000, i'd say if there is a Snowhead who knows a good boot fitter in Devon then go with it. Go with flipperthesnowholedigger's tip and visit Devon Ski Centre. Personally, i'd buy new but see what they have.

All the best!! snowHead

Blockhead is right. Superfeet are a good idea but only shine when you've been taught how to allow your weight distribution to ask your skies to do the work for you, look to specialist schools like McGarry or Mountain Masters (I've used one a lot and mates have recommended the other). Super feet allow the weight above the arch of your foot to transmit down to the ski.
I use super feet in my hiking boots and thats the best buy I've made.
PS I've bought three sets of boots. Set two started to hurt after 3 days and I gave them away and returned to my rat chewed ones for another 10 years. Haven't put superfeet in the new ones as the arch support in the new ones is pretty good as is.
