Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Swiss electric adapters - where to buy

 Poster: A snowHead

Anyone know a source for UK to Swiss power adapters? You can buy any number of "continental", US or Australian ones at the airport, but I've never found one that works with the Swiss 3 pin system. I'm getting tired of scouring resorts for electical appliance outlets when I could be enjoying the apres.

Standard continental adapters (Europe) work. Sure I've seen them in Tesco

halfhand, +1 - just plug them into the two prong part of the socket - I have been in Switzerland many times with them.

Do you mean those plugs that have a sort of elongated hexagonal shape? They can be pretty annoying, sometimes a normal round Euro adapter will work but in some cases it won't. I have seen these at the airport, there is a sort of multi adaptor that costs way more than a basic one, but it has a bit the slides out so it fits the Swiss plugs. E.g. http://www.swisstravelproducts.com/index.php?site=category&cat_id=1 I've seen these at airports too, often branded "Fuji".

MY UK-Europe adapters worked fine in Switzerland. A regular visitor to Wengen bought them for me at the airport, as I'd left mine behind. They're Samsonite ones.

I'm pretty sure that Migros in Zurich airport sell them, but with a little planning you can have more convenience for less money. Make up a lead with a socket something like this http://www.screwfix.com/prods/32624/Electrical-Supplies/Cable-Reels-Leads/Extension-Leads/Trailing-Socket-2G (or get a 1-Gang from B&Q etc) and put a short length of cable on. Alternatively, just chop the end off a cheapie lead from Ikea or the like. Then in any local shop, buy a plug. Advantage of this is you get more sockets, nothing drops out, it fits perfectly, can be used with very little cost to adapt in any country.

Ham, but use French plugs, more universal than Swiss ones.

halfhand, I've quite often come across lozenge-shaped recesses for the plugs that the standard continental adapters don't fit into. The 4-gang extension socket is a good idea.

DCG, The only time I've seen those they seem to be in the kitchen and seem to be specifically designed for where you might plug in a Swiss electric kettle which seem designed for that particular recess. I've never had a problem with other sockets.

DCG, the lozenge shaped sockets are for use in kitchens and bathrooms.

More importantly, Swiss plugs have a central earth which means they won't work anywhere else. Whereas French unearthed plugs are rather more useful. French earthed plugs are not as the pins have a more italian girth to them.

Ham, +1 that's what I have. I've made both Swiss and Euro plug to 4 UK socket extension leads. Bigger, but a lot better than a single adapter.

You can also get those multi-adapter things with a USB attachment which you can attach the the plug, so you can charge compatible phones (and other devices) directly from the adapter, which can be handy. In fact I lost the normal plug bit so mine is now just a multinational USB adapter.

DCG, a combination of UK-Euro (available at all UK airports) and Euro-Swiss (available at all Swiss airports) does the job. Like others above I've made my own 4-way UK socket with Swiss plug which is in my flat over there.

My link above takes you straight to what you are asking for at a unit price of £3.49 with free delivery. No fiddly sliders, no piggy-backing.
If you are going for more than a casual visit, then do what others suggest. Put a Swiss plug on a UK adaptor strip.

got two of them, both blew in swiss sockets. Never had a problem with normal euro plugs in any of my sockets.
