Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

You'd be better off spending money designing a little robot that flies like a RC chopper over you when you ski - perhaps it could video you? If you get in a slide the robot could implement a rescue. I'd take one.

I'm bagging the patent for a helium avalanche balloon on a string version (I think that's different enough to the RC chopper version to be novel) wink

Martin Chester (Guide and head-instructor at Plas y Brenin) had a great analogy that he uses with teenagers:

You dig a pit. You can make the back wall fail, but it takes a bit of force. You ask the kids what they think the odds of the slope sliding are. The come up with a consensus of, say, 20%.

You ask them if they would ski the slope. They say "Yes, sure."

You then ask them to imagine they're standing at the side of a motorway. You offer them an 80% chance of getting to the other side alive on foot. You ask them if they would try to cross. "NO WAY!".

To really sink this in.. extend the analogy a little... " so you and 10 mates are lined up to cross a motorway... 2 of you WILL die. "

I believe there are a number of products being developed in this space, one of which is patented and is very similar to the probes the oil and other industries use to test the strength, consistency etc.. of the sea bed before construction or pipe laying.

I have bailed out because of a lack of clear scenarios in the queries

Asking about techniques used with without clear scenarios will give you spurious information
Asking for numbers on frequency of pit digging without clear scenarios will give you spurious information
Asking about risk factors is something that can be found in any book, website or blog

I wish you well though
