Just thought I would put up information on my injuries that happened last week whilst skiing in Verbier, as well as rehab time/regime,in case anyone has had, or gets, similar injures.
Wednesday 15th December
Off piste skiing an easy area near Barrys Bowl (Mont Fort to Cabine Mont Fort) and right binding ejects for no apparent reason other than heavy snow. Skiing on one ski and turn up the mountain to stop, simultaneously seeing a large mound of snow so think I will run my right had through to assist in stopping (1st mistake). More rock than snow and smash my hand into rock and slightly twisting right knee as I crumple!
Think that the hand is just very badly bruised and continue skiing for 2 1/2 hours until 4:30pm.
Thursday 16th December
Wake up with a very sore hand but still think it is just badly bruised. Cannot put right glove on without severe pain so decide to pop into doctors surgery for check up to confirm my expert diagnosis of a badly bruised thumb. Doctor is not convinced I am an expert and suggests x-rays. I laugh this off but decide to humour him and agree to the x-rays.
Result of x-rays - Compound thumb fracture apparently known as Bennet Fracture. (I am not the hand injury expert I thought I was!!)
Cast put on to immobilise thumb and most of hand up to halfway up my forearm.
Me: Can I go and ski today, doc.
Doc: (Shrugging and not looking convinced) Si tu veux??!!??
So off I go up the slopes with one pole to find the folks I was skiing with and tell them I cannot do anything off piste or any mogul skiing with them.
Join an ISIA training group doing GS turns (on my Mantras!!) as don't require a pole plant for this. All going well for most of the day, except for cold fingers on my right hand due to lack of a glove, until the last half hour when we were told that we weren't pushing it enough. (Those who know me will appreciate that this is the wrong thing to tell me..!)
Next run and properly going for it but make a left turn and not angulating enough, possibly due to wanting to protect my right hand, get a bit back and late and lose control with my right ski ejecting again and me coming down hard on my right leg with it bending outwards under me and pain shooting through the exact same right inside knee that I had hurt the day before.
Get skis back and ski for next 1/2 hour with a bit of pain but manage to finish the day. Get to bottom of Medran and take skis off and realise that I may have a problem walking!!
Friday 17th December
Return to doctor to get cast checked and show him my leg. Diagnosis - Inner Collateral Ligament injury with slight possibility of an ACL rupture.
I am not feeling too clever bearing in mind the amount of skiing I have set up for the season.
Fast forward to Monday 20th December
See orthopod in London and confirms Bennet Fracture as well as a grade 1.3(!!) MCL injury but not ACL rupture!!! (Best news so far)
Recommends skiing to St Anton in January is cancelled and suggest 6-8 weeks before any skiing and 4-8 weeks before any competitive sport. Physio rehab and stretching exercises recommended for knee. Cast to come off hand in mid January.
Tuesday 21st December
See physio and start to mobilise knee. She is pleased with results of mobilisation and advises of additional stretching exercises so as not to lose extension of leg which is her major concern. Flexion will apparently be ok over time. Exercises involve lying knee extension and flexion through slowly increased ranges of movement and quadricep contractions. (not into pain!)
Knee is still sore but feels very slightly more mobile.
Wednesday 22nd December
Able to walk up and down stairs without a straight leg for the first time although there is slight discomfort.
To be continued:

Touchguru, ouch twice.
(Note: Compound fracture is one where there is a wound and bits of bone poking through skin. I suspect that the word you are looking for is "comminuted" which means more than one fracture line i.e. the bone is in more than two bits).

Touchguru, if it's any consolation you may well feel that you can ski on your MCL before the physio would really recommend it

Freddie Paellahead, you are 100% correct.
Verbier doctor used the word 'compound' which was probably an interpretation issue. The UK orthopod used the word 'comminuted'

Sorry to hear your woes, but have to say this made me laugh. GSing on hopeless skis with a fresh fracture and a lower arm cast! Mad!

You had me at "expert"
You remind me of when I did my ACL trying to surf on 15 September. I went on surfing and in the afternoon I played some football - gave up only after falling three times in pain.
Hope you get better much faster than me!

Thanks for the wishes rob@rar, Hurtle, horizon and skimottaret
Knee feels a bit better than yesterday. As long as there is some improvement each day over the next few weeks, then that will be good for me.

Thanks for the information on your experience lynseyf
Hand feels a lot better and have even managed a few upper body exercises. Still some pain in places so will probably be getting x-rayed before the cast comes off around 11th January.
Right knee (although I have a MUCH better range of movement) is still stiff and sore when completely straight or completely flexed. I go through periods of feeling really good to one where I walk much like lynseyf has said above where it feels like I have forgotten how to walk normally.
I will be seeing the physio again today, after not going for a week with them all being on holiday, so will hopefully get some good news!!!

Latest update
Right Hand
Cast came off yesterday (Just on 4 weeks after being put on for the first time and after two specialists differed on opinion of whether to remove it) X-Rays show healing and early callous formation but not 100% yet. I have had my hand strapped up and will need to be very careful over the next 2 weeks that I don't put undue stress through the thumb area.
Right Knee (plus Right Ankle!?!)
Knee is a lot better in terms of movement but is still a bit swollen and is very stiff for a short period after inactivity( sitting or lying down for an extended time)
A little sore when walking and flexing the knee but there is still progress
Right Ankle area is another issue which came up after my 4th January physio visit. A lot of pain in the right forefoot area and up the front and side of my shin and when walking fast or trying to do rehab exercises for the knee.
Suspected possible syndesmotic injury or hairline bone fracture (!) so having an Ultrasound in the next couple of days to assess!! When it rains it pours!!!

Touchguru, the ankle/shin problem could be secondary to your uneven gait from the knee injury

Update
Saw the specialist last night and had an ultrasound on the knee and ankle
Good news
Knee is looking good and should recover nicely in time for February skiing
Catastrophic news!!
I have a syndesmotic injury. Anterior inferior tibiofibular tear and a split in the interosseous membrane.
Seems like it is injury that has been documented in competitive slalom skiers and this is exactly the type of turn I was making when I injured myself. For those interested - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC155405/
Getting a boot and crutches today and an aircast for when I am stationary cycling to try and keep up cardio. Potentially 4-6 weeks with boot so cutting it fine for my Level 2 in early March!!!
Then Touch Rugby World Cup at end of June so everything is going to be really tight and will MASSIVELY depend on how the next 4 weeks in the boot go to see if the ligament knits enough.
Anyone got any miracle cures - I am all ears!!

Maybe postpone the L2 to focus recovery on the World Cup? That seems like more of a priority?

Thanks Hurtle. With all the injuries I have had in my time, I have definitely kept many physiotherapists gainfully employed!!
Freddie Paellahead, I really wish that you had been correct!
rob@rar, you are probably right, but I have also put so much work into preparing for the Level 2 that I really want to take that if I am able.
If it comes to a choice of perhaps doing long term damage if I take the Level 2 then I will obviously can that and just focus on the World Cup.

Injury update:
Hand
Practically almost 100% besides some residual pain and weakness. I have started shaking hands with my right hand again rather than with a reverse-left-hand-finger grip type shake!
Knee
Much better and only occassionally sore in places. Being held back in terms of rehab by ankle (below)
Ankle
I had been expecting the worst for a few days as had been in occasional pain even when on crutches and in an aircast boot. I had a second ultrasound scan yesterday evening and after the specialist had been very silent while he was scanning the areas he then proclaimed 'I could be a test case for doing the correct thing to give the injury the chance to heal in the 3 week period since I had the last scan' as it is has apparently knitted together so well!!
He is convinced with more of the same that in 4 weeks (aircast boot and crutches for 2 weeks and and then ankle air cast and crutches for the next two weeeks) the ligament will be 100% repaired and I will be ready to ski again.
Sooooo.... I don't have to cancel my Level 2 course!
I can even ski in the next couple of weeks as long as I don't do anything stupid and ski only very slowly down greens and blues to get some skiing feeling back.
I actually couldn't have dreamed of or hoped for better news!!!!

I need to remember not to get ahead of myself and takes things very slowly. I might even forego Chamonix skiing from 12-19th February to make sure everything is 100% before I start skiing (very slowly) the following week in Serre Chevalier.
