Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anybody tried out a pair of
Scarpa Maestrale
boots yet ?
Look like a worthy successor to my old Denali XT's.
Slightly concerned how well they would work with step-in crampons though (the angle lock system looks quite big).

, was out in mine yesterday for a few hours - lovely skinning in them due to the amount of rear
movement
in the cuff in walk mode and found them to be good for the down as well. I have Dynafit Vertical STs mounted on a pair of
K2
Apache Outlaws (88mm underfoot) and the boots were more than stiff enough to drive these.
I have Grivel Airtech Crampons with the Newmatic Semi-Step in mounting system; plastic toe cap with usual lever arrangement at the rear. You are right in thinking the bottom lug of the walk mechanism is big and this does prevent the rear crampon lever from reaching the normal past vertical position. It does hold OK but definately glad I have straps as well. The other slight pain is that the front boot buckle gets in the way a bit of the plastic toe cap so perhaps this is where a full on step in system might be better. Not had the chance to try the boot/crampon combo in action yet but hoping these will work fine for me but then not planning on using my ski touring boots for hard/technical ice or mixed climbing just added security for the rare times skis have to come off.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

, sounds like the same issue I have with my current Denali XT/Charlet Moser M10 combo. The ankle level to toe bale strap seems strong ...
scotia
, Got any links to the TGR thread ?
