Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

My Wife's skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I've bought my beginner wife a pair of Rossignol Harmony 2 skis for Christmas. Brand new out of the wrapper. Would anyone know if there is a factory wax on them and will it be sufficient for a week's skiing? Or will I have to give them a service before she even skis on them?

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks

they should be waxed up from the factory bu not sure if they will be ideal to ski on from the wrapper or not. also not sure if the edges will be spot on or not. Used to be the case that they might be a bit grabby as they were sharp for the entire length of the edge and needed to be detuned somewhat.

I'm sure someone will be along soon who works with skis in this decade rather than me LOL

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

garethjomo, I can't help, but maybe if you changed the thread title to something like "OK to ski new skis out of the box?" one of the Knowledgeable Ones would be along. Mind you, if your wife is like me she might not notice.....

garethjomo, the wax on them isn't really good enough, they need to be cleaned, preferably with a hot wax scrape and then waxed, first with a base prep wax and then with a universal wax.

the edges should be OK but worth checking, detuning used to be done on straight ski's but not something that you should do on carvers.
