Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

portable tuning bench

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi, I am looking for a strong portable tuning bench to buy, I remember reading a thread on here recently where some benches were recommended but can't find it today. Forum search showed a couple of very old posts. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi. I use a Sealey trestle and it works fine. Cheap, strong and stable but bigger and more fiddly to fold up than the more expensive skier one from Bartletts.

if you want strong then the homenkol one is pretty bomb proof....but it is heavy, which is fine so long as you don't have to fly with it

Thanks for the tips and links guys-

skeletonhead, on the photos the top looks like a hollow frame (the legs fold up into it) - did you have any problems attaching the vice to it?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yeh just like CEM said Holmenkol is good and strong but friggin heavy - use one in the back of van when we go racing and its very sturdy for the longer ski lengths 2m +. Depends on what setup you will be using it for?
If for home workshop then - good choice but research on price, if for travel than No Way!! - (unless you are driving out there).

These guys a few weeks back were doing a vice and stand combo for just under 90 quid - just looked on their website and can't find it, but its worth a quick e-mail to them - http://shop.skiquick.co.uk/

Home workshop, freeride skis 80-100mm.

Holmenkol looks totally brilliant but the price...OMG Shocked Smile

I'll check with Skiquick, thanks.

Yes, it is a hollow frame. You have to screw the clamps up tight. Not a problem other than it takes longer!

Cookski is under consideration too. I should have a closer look at it next time I visit the store.

Yeh these are good, but need packers as no adjustable feet - not sure why no one has made these out of aluminium yet as they are just bulk steel powder coated frame - would be better anodised and maybe out of ali - (better for hand luggage) - maybe someone on snowheads with a bit of time on their hands and engineering skill could look into this - I know a lot of racers that would be up for buying them if they were made out of ali and lighter - (Also would be good if you could have an insert at both ends to increase the length of the bench to take up to 2m + skis - not sure on how stable the bench would be after that mod but worth considering.....

you're absolutely right does work fine with 2m + skis - but if you were making one out of ali from scratch would be good to have the option of extending the vice mount area for less overhand at each end at these lengths.

I use the Sealey trestle as well. It seems nice and stable, but it is heavy to lug around.
