Poster: A snowHead

Hi All,
I'm looking to get new skis to mount my Dukes on next season.
Im looking for something fatter than my sultan 85s also with Rocker.
I borrowed a shot of cousins Armada JJ's in 185 last season was very impressed with there performance on piste never got chance to venture off piste.
Thought they were a bit chattery on the tips at speed!
I have seen the AK JJ's online in 195 they look not to bad slightly stiffer than the JJ
So i have narrowed it down to either AK JJ 195, Atomic Bent Chetler 192 or the Rossi Super 7
I have also seen the whitedots for sale on here but not sure if they would be of any use to me?
Any info will be glaldy received
Cheers
Andy

How wide do you want to go and what do you weigh, how aggressive do you ski etc?
I read somewhere that next seasons line prophet 100 will have rocker. Could be a good way to go if you'd like twintips.

I've been loving my Moment Bibby Pros this (last?) season - similar to the JJ's but stiffer and a more manly sidecut. Much more versatile than I expected, yet still super surfy in the pow. Graphics on next season's are pretty grim though.

I'm 95kg 6ft 5 and quite an aggresive skier when the scottish weather lets me!
As I said before I enjoy the JJ's but they were to soft for me
Any thoughts on whitedot redeemers, i been reading up about them and they seem to be good for everything but ice?
I can use the sultan 85 for them days

Oh, forgot to say the Bibby's are pretty light for the size too. I haven't skinned with them yet, but I have Barons on them and they (in 190) are about the same weight as my 176 Big Troubles with Barons.
Redeemers are pretty popular on here. Might be worth looking at DPS Wailer 112RP and Lotus 120 too if you're planning to skin much on them.
What sort of skiing do you want to do? Tight turns trhough the trees, or mach out big turns on open faces, etc? Where do you ski?
Plenty of reviews of various fat skis on here: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php/104129-The-NEW-Ski-Review-Links-Thread

I like to do big sweeping turns on open mainly.
I mainly ski in Scotland usually at the gorm.

If it's for Scotland it feels like the Redeemer or those in it's class aren't really your ski. While I'm sure they can work you'll be dealing with a bunch of extra width that on average you don't really need unless the Gorm suddenly starts a cycle of 10 foot storms or season long corn.

ive read lot of reviews about the redeemers and they say they are good for everything bar ice.
I just want to mount my dukes for a wee skin looking for a fresh line or 2 on the odd bonny day!

Take a look at the Whitedot Director - basically a 107(?)mm waisted Redeemer, probably more suitable for Scotland.

You know it makes sense.

Yep, 107 mm is more suitable than 120mm but would be too wide for me. Unless of course I was going to be lucky enough to only ski on soft snow days and I was never going to be hanging around in icy lift queues. That'd be asking a bit much of Cairngorm though.

To each their own, but I reckon the Director'd be a good offpiste daily driver (at least for Euro conditions, are typical Scottish conditions that different?).

Typical Scottish conditions definitely are that different in my experience. There're many, many more freeze-thaw cycles during the season in Scotland and loads more occasions when rain falls on top of snow. Our trademark moist air masses, high winds and ski slopes below 1,100 metres are rare in the Alps. Therefore you don't need to rely on holding an edge against neve, ice or hardpack as often in Euroland.

I wish our conditions were like much of Europe! I think at 92mm waist I have a good all-rounder for Scotland. The Legend Pros were just about perfect just a bit too much like hard work for me.

I tried the Preachers and Redeemers at Glencoe and thought the Redeemers were too specialised for Scotland but the Preachers were pretty good and I'd be happy to ski them as my everyday ski, they skied a lot smaller than their size.

Yeah, can't answer for the rest of your choice but I would be graduating towards the Preacher or Director from our range, just that bit skinnier and more manageable than the Redeemer but still wide enough to help you out in challenging snow!

Alans deep bath, surely as a man you know size isn't everything
I had a 92mm waist ski then I swapped it for a 98mm ski which has a shorter turn radius, it skis like a fat slalom ski on piste which I like, I find it easier to ski. I tried the Preachers at Glencoe on an average day and they had the same fat slalom ski feel on groomed snow and felt great on the ungroomed Main Basin, which isn't exactly open bowl, charging terrain.
