Chemmy Alcott's season looks like it may be over after an accident in Lake Louise today, during practice for this season's first World Cup downhill. Chemmy was airlifted to Banff after suffering a broken tibia and a possible fracture of her fibula...
This is a bitter blow to Chemmy, who lost most of the season to a broken ankle 2 years ago and whose 2009/10 Olympic season was blighted by financial and logistical woes as the British governing body, SSGB went into financial melt down and subsequent liquidation just as she and the rest of the team were trying to focus on the Vancouver Olympics.
Nevertheless, the net sum of last season's performances meant Chemmy Alcott began this season ranked an impressive 8th in the world and after a hectic Summer of negotiations had found enough sponsorship to secure a place training and touring with the Canadian team this year. Chatting with Chemmy and Dougie Crawford at the London ski show she told snowHeads, "Surprisingly, it will cost me less to be looked after by the Canadians than it cost me to look after myself last season."

"Tib fractured, fib shattered. Season over but career not" is what I've just been told. Very sad bad luck. After Aspen, when she was visibly off form, she was saying she needed some self-belief and I can't help feeling that this accident is connected.

Slight consolation at least she got mentioned on the 5 Live sports bulletin this morning which is a first IME.
Shame it had to happen in such nasty circumstances. let's hope she's got a touch of the Hermanator about her in recovery.
