livetoski, Any leftovers can be left over by the Alpette lift and I'll walk down and collect! 12 hungry & thirsty blokes in town this week. Too warm over there again apparently, lower slopes resembling spring conditions, still ok up top, will find out for myself tomorrow!

We're here and had a nice day today, the sun was shining and all was good in the world. Bit slushy lower down, but should be nice for the morning again.
My personal achievement was doing a red on my first day of skiing! That's good for me.... Plus I was able to ski and take a photo at the same time!

Lovely sunny day again today, but very much spring conditions, which is a bit worrying for the rest of the season, I guess... We did have a brilliant day (on very forgiving moguls) but there are a fair few rocks starting to show through, even on piste. Still great at the moment, but more snow and colder temps need to come along soon (although they can wait until next week as far as we're concerned - this is making up for my frostnipped nose in Les Arcs before Christmas!).

One section on La Sarenne was awful on Friday!

Any update on conditions on the Alpe? Looks like La Sarenne is closed at the moment.
Was hoping to book a day or twos off-piste guiding for next week but I've held off waiting for the snow that doesn't look like it's going come. At least the temperatures are plummeting to proper winter conditions.

The snow is ok, a bit bare in places, but not enough to stop us having a fantastic holiday. Better today now it's a bit colder.
On the glacier the snow is great.
I'd have though off piste was no go until they have more snow, but I;m very much a piste man anyway.
Sarenne was open on Sunday and I gave it a miss due to not having found my snow legs. Bit gutted about that.

Top half of Sarenne is fine but bottom is rocky (just ask my skis!). Only go halfway and return via Marmotte 3.

Ah OK....didn't know you could do that....or maybe I did it?
Skied down to the lower chair lift and went back up on both chairs but nearly froze to death......and then bottled the tunnel.

Hello, this is my first post but I thought it worth adding for anyone out here right now.
We were taking the long traverse round the glacier that leads to chateau noir / combe du loup a few days ago, reasonable amount of snow and that traverse is usually quite safe. In the middle though it began to step up and down, and over perhaps the third small lip the lead guy hit a rock he just couldn't see. Not going fast, but ski blew off, and it is pretty steep up there, so he bounced about 20 foot down and came to a rest clinging to packed powder just over some rocks which could have made tasty lacerations on his back bottom or his face. It took maybe another five awkward minutes or so before he was able to inch his way across and safely begin the next downward slide to his skis. I just wanted to post this because even in places where you might think the coverage is good, it's worth being a little extra cautious right now.

To be honest the wind has done a fair bit of damage too. Some of the slopes seem to be part powder, part sheet ice. A challenge, but not one less confident skiers will like.
I've still had a great time, but the place needs some snow.

My sentiments exactly! We've had a great week, but there was a fair bit of rock-hopping & ice-schussing going on, especially towards the end... The greens into town were particularly bad, with large areas of pure water ice - not so great for the poor beginners trying to make snowplough turns
On the plus side, it was bl00dy cold by the time we left, so at least any precipitation will be snow rather than rain, & they should be able to get the snow-cannons going pretty much full-time (OK, not great, but better than nothing...). Crossed fingers that it'll snow soon!

Returned yesterday after a fairly lame week out there. Pistes are hard & icy lower down, better on the glacier, skiied the Sarenne on Tuesday although it was closed, just a few rocks/ice showing through on the last pitch to the bridge. Off piste totally non-existent now, snow is needed desperately, guides & teachers unable to work as there's simply nowhere to go. A foot of snow is forecast for later this week, pistes should remain skiable, just, until then but wouldn't rush out there just yet if you have a choice. Off piste is likely to be very dangerous after the new snow arrives.

Back from a week in AD'H. Agree with most of the other snowheads reports regarding lack of snow. We skiied the Sarenne on Sunday (16th) but even going down it then was hazardous- my skis lost chunks of wax after hitting bad patches of rock/crud just before you get to the blue/cruise part. It was then shut every day there after. The warm weather for rest of the week was pretty enjoyable, but you could tell conditions were getting progressively worse. Come the freezing conditions on Thursday & Friday it was an ice rink on pistes, so having to go higher to the Glacier to get some decent skiing was marred by the wind! Got a bit of off piste done, but conditions were so variable, skiing crud, Ice, nice powder, hard packed snow all on the same run...made for an interesting experience. The next big dump will make for avalanche risks imo. Glad we chose last week instead of this- until some consistent dumps it will be pretty hairy anywhere in resort. Even Oz & Auris are struggling with lack of snow.
Got to say how the Tunnel remains open I don't know- saw the worst crash/fall on there last week at the top- the guy went head over skis after the 2nd mogul and carried on 200m down the piste crashing on his head each time- lucky he had a helmet on.

ecologyemissions,
My dad fell/slipped down there in the same style over new year. Just passed the large moguls at the top, picked up too much speed, fell and cartwheeled down about 200m. This photo show where his skis eventually came off about half way down the fall.

Bjorn_again_Daehlie, Nick D, just spoke with my lad in Oz, he says the forecasts all changed last night very cold tho.
Hes just piste and park blasting at the moment, with an amusing note that some Ski Club of GB people are there tomorrow so he might go and say hi!
The company he is working for www.chilledmountain.com have some super deals for next week, if any one is intrested.

Hi Nick D, Good to see you down there last week. Your paella looked pretty good and Greg told me it was a bit of a late one. It's our annual boys trip this weekend so looking forward to it. There was snow forecast for Wednesday which then switched to Friday night / Saturday morning. Now the forecast is for mostly dry and cold. Let's keep our fingers crossed for something to freshen up the place.
livetoski, will probably be piste bashing ourselves, but a bit of fresh stuff on it would make all the difference.

At the moment is sun, sun and more sun - there is still some good skiing playing on the pistes - but it is really starting to need fresh snow. Some of the main runs in to ADH have melted through to the grass below - though this is only in odd spots - and in some parts you can feel small stones just below the surface. Yesterday went across to Auris and down the blacks off the poma and the scary chair and it was rock solid scraping all the way down even by mid afternoon. As for off-piste...................... Overall, some of the vaujany runs seem to be holding the snow better. Most days temp has been varying from around -9c in morning rising to -1c in afternoon. Still some good skiing to be had, but feels almost spring like!

Meteovista is interesting, because not only do they do weather for ski resorts, but amongst their sport and recreations section they also have forecasts for...
Short Skirt Weather!!
[wonder if Sky Sports use them...]

Short skirts would have suffered today. Contrary to the local meteo report which was predicting more sunshine and warm (relatively) temperatures, today it's noticeably colder and overcast with cloud coming in from the north. Though local forecast says no snow due till around 7th Feb to me it looks like there is a chance it's on the way (praying anyway!).
Don't know bout the main ADH area, but today played on the pistes round Vaujany and Oz and they're still in surprisingly good condition!

At this rate am getting a grass skirt and hawaii shirt on! All the cloud vanished overnight to reveal blue skies in ADH this morning. Skied some of the blacks in the Auris and in the Vaujany area today, which were OK - but higher up the mountain isn't faring too well. Noticed that encountering more patches of small stones through the snow on several runs. There's a massive bank of cloud sat to the south west of Vaujany this evening which seems to be slowly working its way across - but whether it snows...............................

Not sure exactly where to put this report (yes I did read the sticky..) so here goes-
Alps d' Huez week ending 27th Jan:
Hard packed, sun affected snow all over resort. Lots of ice on high traffic or sun affected runs. Rocks and grass well visible anywhere below 1850 m. Sarenne and related runs have been closed all week (Damn it!). I was told that off piste not much better unless you stay high.

I am watching the webcams with bated breath. Is that dark ominous cloud going to release anything? Going on Saturday so I really hope so. had such good snow last year that i'm dragging 11 people out with me again this year. Wishing I'd picked an Austrian resort now. C'mon the snow.

And for the period Thursday 27th - Sunday 30 Jan : as pencain says but steadily worsening with more small stones , some rock and grass showing on the sunniest pistes.
We ended up planning routes around the pistes with snow cannon .
Still some good snow eg on the red called Bartavelles . The big black cloud that to me meant only snow that drifted around on Sat afternoon drifted off somewhere else.

Starting to get my gear ready for our trip to ADH on Saturday. Thinking ditch the salopettes and jacket and go for board shorts and flip flops. 11 degrees on Sunday, what the hell? Really starting to not look forward to it now. There is going to be six people who haven't skied before and going into ski school. I assume this will still be okay for them. I hope so.
