Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Washing Down

I mean washing a goose down jacket as opposed to cleaning yourself enthusiastically using buffing downwards motions (although that's a good idea for a thread too). Last time I washed a down jacket I basically ended up with big blobs of feathers joined together by areas of no fill whatsoever. The thing was never the same again. Anyone a dab hand at it, knows the tricks of the trade? No major erm... stains, just could do with a freshen up/plumping up. Or I might not bother.

Bode Swiller, The critical bit is in the drying. After washing all the down will be lumped together, and these lumps need to be broken up during the drying process. The best way is to tumble dry on a low setting with either some of those special tumble dryer balls in with it, or failing that an old plimsoll. It will take a long time to dry but the plimsoll/dryer balls will break the lumps up.

Bode Swiller, use tennis balls when you wash and when you dry. It keeps the feathers from lumping up.

Bode Swiller, I'm surprised a man of your means is asking such a question.
Simply take the old garment to Oxfam and then proceed diredctly to Harrods ski department and purchase a new jacket.
BTW Harrods is OK again since that nice Mr Al Thani has purchased the shop. Very Happy

Thanks all, much obliged. I'm leaning towards the DIY tennis ball method.

Until you've been through at least four rounds of elbow patches and enough darning to put the house keeper out of needle and thread there's plenty of life in the old girl yet. I'm still wearing my great great grandpapa's shooting jacket, don't you know.
