Time for the annual season goals thread.
As usual mine aren't overly technically challenging but may vary in their feasibility:
1 Have fun
2 Ski lots of pow (see 1)
3 Don't get hurt (but possibly ok provided not badly and 1 & 2 have already been achieved)
4 Get some more time on teles on real mountains now its finally starting to click a bit more (airline baggage policies also a bit of an obstacle here)

1) Not to break another thumb in a ski binding. Don't do this btw, it bled everywhere.
2) More touring
3) Less flailing on steeper slopes

Your personal contribution to Franco-Gaelic bailout?
Looked at relatively you've already achieved it cf the rest of us rat race losers who'll easily squander that over a season to get what you enjoy on your doorstep.

1/ ski at least once in each month of the winter
2/ learn to trust in my ability to ski steeper terrain
3/ to actually mean it when I say " I love moguls"
4/ overcome fear of traversing high slopes ( might need derren brown's help with this one )

1. For knees to survive everything after 12 months of physio & TLC.

1. Platinum NASTAR medal
2. Take my 'pine bough' form from last season into the race course (needed for 1 maybe although I'm up an age group and an easy set may make 1 doable without)
3. Get better at 180 sideslips
4. Take 3 into bumps
5 Improve the skating
6. Work on 1 leg skiing more
7. Take good shots of Beaver Creek WC
8. Improve higher edge angle carves
9. Improve racing line visualisation
10. Ski more off piste on the Stormiders
11. More tree runs

Get my pow turns to more of a GS size, shape and speed, and do more touring. Maybe Landeslehrer 1 at the end of the season/glacier in the summer (that's more money dependant though).

1. Make sure my baby granddaughter has fun at Christmas, on the sledge we bought her for 3 euros in the Trocathlon, whilst her parents ski.
2. Do more off-piste
3. Practice 1 leg skiing on the right foot twice as much as the left
4. Improve my French
5. Do some slightly more ambitious snow-shoeing
6. Not spend too much time on Snowheads.

1. Take some lessons - I missed out last year whilst concentrating on the confidence issue - this might incorporate some or all of the issues below.
2. Ski my green skis from the moment I put them on rather than the other way round
3. Learn to really carve most/all the reds in most conditions. Improve the technique in getting down the steeper, icier stuff
4. Lose the doubt factor - stand at the top of everything and think 'yeah, lets go!', I believe I am now an intermediate skier and now need to ski like one
5. Work out what to do when confronted with a few bumps (I started to do just the odd few small ones last year)
6. I'm not proud, I'll never beat the kids down, but I'd love to give BMF_skier a run for his money and stop him from taking the mickey out of my skiing

1) Learn how to ski off piste/powder with more precision and practise lots
2) Improve carving especially on steeper slopes ie Red and above => become more comfortable with speed
3) Go all out in trying to do a good job and genuinely impress the group/leader when I have a week teaching with Interski!

Depends what one calls carving. With the trend of expanding the definition of the carving term that seems to be happening these days, everyone does. Under the traditional meaning, the one I happy to see you're using, only a scant few can do it even on blue terrain.

Now there's a nice set of well defined and attainable goals for improvement.

Occasionally engaging edges, complete with associated terror, on blacks.

Dr John, it's a good goal, regardless of the level of terrain. All learning comes in stages, and taking new skills to harder terrain is part of that process.
Remember that quality carving is born of a broad set of foundation skills in all the sports technical areas; Balance, Edging, Rotary, Angulation, Flexion/Extension. Refinement in all those technical areas are required before high level carving can be realized. The root of most peoples troubles with carving lies below the surface, within their foundation skill base. Build the skills, at the base level, and good carving comes so much easier. Wax on, wax off. Know what I mean?

1. Ski blue runs with my son in the Feb mid-term holiday
2. Get in at least a couple of offpiste runs before the end of the Euro season
I'll be well chuffed if I manage these two after a 28 Oct ACL repair!
