Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Salomon evolution 8

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All

Iv'e just bought some used Salomon Evolution 8s. Paid buttons and they fit really well.

They have an adjuster for stiffness and I can't tell (works well then?) which way is soft and which way is stiff.

Is anyone familiar with these boots?

Thanks

ok they are between 8-15 years old depending on the model, does the walk mode have a large dial on the back which is either up /down for ski across for walk or a smaller one with 3 positions of walk , ski , attack on it......this will narrow down the year.

the sliders either side of the instep are the flex adjusters the further up they are the stiffer the boot is supposed to be, from what i remember they have between 3 and 5 increments, the reason you probably can't tell is that the plastic has hardened up over time and there was very little difference in the fist place

good luck

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

CEM,
Thanks for the reply, yes they have the large dial on the back. I guess I will need the good luck Little Angel
The thing is, I've been hiring and never have any problems and these feel comfy in the house. Also they are a stepping stone to getting some new ones, probably for next year.
I can allways bin them and go back to hiring until I'm ready to spend £250+

The Evo 8's were a great boot in their day and offered a dual approach to stiffeniing the boot. CEM is exactly right, the higher up the adjuster the stiffness of the boot. If they are in good shape and you feel comfortable in 'em I would hang on to 'em for a while - you won't be dissappointed!
