Poster: A snowHead

Has anyone here purchased, (or use..?!) a balaclava / ski mask designed for children?
If so where did you buy it from? - as I'm having a rather difficult time trying to find one.
The child in question is quite young, (3/4 years of age) so it would have to be quite small. It also needs to be more than just a diy job on a wooly hat as the temperatures might be relatively low, therefore I would prefer a thermally insulated version if available.
Many thanks.

fr0sty, I have skied with both sprogs when they were aged 4-5 in Canada and the US at -25 C. We have tended to use fleecy buffs with lids and decent layered body wear, helmets and goggles. Seems to have worked. Personally I have never found the neoprene masks any good at all. Lidl do cheapo fleecy buff-lookalikes.
Our kids do tend to stay fairly warm unless they are on high chairlifts or windy ridges.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

fr0sty, we used this http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/balaclava-helmet-liner-ad-24180739/ for our son last year under a helmet and with a buff around the neck/chin too. I used one myself too and it was great. Son's was the youth size the fit was good. It fitted well with goggles, there was no part of his face exposed. I think you can get them easily, I have seen them in resort and in snow and rock too. Under helmet balaclava is what you are after. If you are not planning for it to be under a helmet then I have seen fleece style animal character balaclavas by makes such as Trespass and Dare 2 Be.

sarah, those look terrific. I shall get one for my OH - his face always gets cold.

My eldest son is always cold in the extremities so we use a similar helmet liner/mask to the one sarah, suggests and it does the job (on his face and neck - we then have to deal with the fingers and toes ) The one above does look excellent and a pretty good price too - we paid a lot more IIRC

We purchased soft fleecy balaclavas in the resort (La Rosiere). However the next year we needed one for my son and I think we found one in the Trespass shop in Crawley.
The thin fleece ones fit under a ski helmet. However I'm not sure if the monkey ones would.

We skied in Norway before Christmas last year and it was bitterly cold for our 4 year old, and us. We got some motorcycle neck scarves and used those as they could be tucked over the head before the helmet is put on. The scarves are long enough to cover the neck into the top of the jacket.
We learnt that ensuring that there are no gaps is more important than the thickness of the fabric. Our scarves are very light which makes them easier to tuck into the helmet.
