Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Junior Back protector - advice on how these should fit please

How should it fit? I have just bought one for my son and trying to be sure it is the right fit. I was advised that it shouldn't foul the neck/helmet at the top and shouldn't come down over the bottom at the back as this area would be covered by impact shorts. Well it is fine at the top, fits in the right place but it does come down a bit over the sacrum at the back. Does this matter? I could get a smaller size but given the price of these things and how fast kids grow if I can get away with a bit of growing room with this item then that would be a bonus. Thanks snowHead

Can he sit down ok in it without it being pushed up? Does he wear impact shorts with coccyx protection already? Main point on fit AIUI is that it shoudn't move around in a fall or restrict natural movement.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

fatbob, thanks, no he doesn't have shorts and that's why I was thinking if it comes down a bit lower then that might actually be better. I will get him to try it on and sit down in it and report back.

fatbob, just tried it, he can sit down and it doesn't push up, the base of it doesn't meet the chair. So it seems it should be ok then. Thanks a lot.

My son rides as well as skis. In both cases we were told that the most important thing was the protector shouldn't ride up as that can increase the risk of a broken neck. The next thing was that they shouldn't be too short as that increases the risk if a fall occurs. The riding and skiing back protectors stop well below the back of the helmet and sits a small amount above the shoulder line.

IIRC they are there to stop the back extending the wrong way as well as providing mechanical impact protection. They are pretty tough devices.

AndrewBailey, that's good to know, thanks. I will be making certain it definitely does not ride up Skullie
