I have a base repair iron it looks like a soldering iron but made for skis. When I do base repairs with it I struggle to do a go repair (this maybe I just need more practise). So I have been looking at the Skimender RP100. Has anybody used both and can comment on them

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Glen Charman, Got one last season for repairing the rock damage (Scottish skiing). Easy to use, get good results, but remember to use the correct sticks in it. After warming the base, then adding the ptex, I use a surform to remove the surplus material - got to be a bit careful or you'll take more off than you put on !

Glen Charman, which base repair tool do you have? Struggle how?
The usual issue when using either a Base Doc (soldering iron type tool) or a p-tex gun is the user doesn't first soften/melt the p-tex in/around the repair site before melting in the repair material - only when the existing base material is melted first can you get a true 'weld'.
Also p-tex will only stick to itself & won't bond to the metal edge or core material so if your repair exposes either edge or core it needs to have a metal grip foundation layer applied first to which, once fully cooled, you add the p-tex repair of the top.
And don't forget to degrease the area before starting as old wax doesn't help a good bond.
Sound like user error to me

spyderjon, I'll be ordering some more wax from you soon and a slightly different base angle guide... but... do you also do the metal grip? The base pistol has been great and as you say.. melt the existing base in the gouge and it'll stick good style. The tip does it for small repairs but its handy buying a cheap little soldering iron for this purpose... don't use your usual one and any flux on it could contaminate the repair site. I use a tiny butane one with a couple of different sized tips.
