The sofa ski school vid on Youtube above was useful to me a couple of years ago in understanding it, I'd kind of been doing it already and that cemented what had already been happening.

I just watched that sofa ski school vid. Is that for real or is it a joke?
Not only was that terrible skiing, he pushes his inner leg forward about a foot to angulate the ski, but if he is encouraging his pupils to start by carving that fast I hate to think how many end up in hospital. He even nearly loses it himself on one turn as he is so unbalanced and leaning back due to his strange inner leg position.
Someone please tell me its just a spoof video!

This, his DVDs are so clear and well thought out. There are some slomo vids of WC stars free skiing GS and SL on youtube which are good to watch once you know what you are looking for.
Getting skis to carve is easy, just roll them on edge and crush the front of your boot to pressure the tip; the hard part is getting your body to do the right things to deal with the forces and get bigger edge angles.

michael stocking, I liked that one too... looks like Dorset Andy didn't though
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Well it worked for me. I was a bit surprised how far he pushed the inner leg forward, but I found the angulation and use of hips helpful. I wouldn't say that was "terrible skiing", maybe just a bit full on if you've never carved a turn before.
The way I learnt was to think to myself "what if I just tilt my skis on their edges?" and on an easy blue/green I tried it and started to turn. I'm not sure I've made much progress since then mind...
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Dorset Andy, Ditto. He also advises to roll your knees to start the turn.
No mention of starting with your ankles. Then he pops up for every transition.
Spoof I think.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Look out for Martin Heckleman ski tips dvd try this http://www.skitips.com/ for how to use the new shaped skis to carve turns on groomed runs , on ice, slush, steep slopes, bumps and powder.
Don't know if he's updated it to feature modern jackets or goggles though...
I still remember it and I watched it years ago...

that vid, sofa ski ski school, is performed by klaus mair. actually he`s stadtliche schi lehrer and the race coach in Tirol.
i think that manner of his show is for better understanding to beginers.
Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

by the way, austrians (in skiing theory) believe that the initiation of turn starts sowhwere in the knees. something like - schne schi is knee skiing.
i was taught in canada, had worked in austria.. where in canada is an idea that the turn initiation comes from ankles - roll over your ankles.
anyway, there`s a lot of brilliant skiers in both countries
