Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Help wanted! Pre-xmas break near Geneva

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I've managed to bag a few reasonably priced flights into Geneva on the 16th Dec and returning on the 20th.

I have already posted on Chalet Direct and have had plenty of replies mainly for Portes Du Soliel and Grand Massif but from what I can see those resorts don't plan to open until the 18th!!

Where's the best bet within 1.5hrs or so?

eithnem, Flaine will be open from 11th Dec- however it's a busy prep time for area and as it's a short stay it is likely to be expensive unless you get lucky or find a samml hotel which is gearered up to short term stays as chalets/appts still shoulder the same turn around costs whether it's just one night or a week Sad The Les drugerers in Samoens are cheap- very much along the lines of a hostel type hotel with a lively bar = http://www.lesdrugeres.com/index.php/en/les-drugeres/riders-team

If you drive, the hop to Morzine/Avoriaz or better still Flaine is around 30 mins and ski apsses will be around 15€ a day during this period. Failing that Chamonix are offer 3 for 2 MBU passes for 98€ until the end of this month and that too is within the 90 min drive from GVA Cool Cool Cool

Flaine would do us nicely. Say we stay in Samoens - how will we get to Flaine if the lifts in Samoens aren't open? We won't have a car.

eithnem,
Not driving rules out Samoens that week which is a shame at it's party week. Try http://www.flaine.com/en/winter/accommodation/good-deals/bonplanpleinepage.htm?stl=2&idHebergcat_id=58&sn=1 and call the toursit office for a chat, they are usually pretty helpful

eithnem, I have an apartment in Flaine Montsoleil (just up the road from Foret) that is available from the opening weekend of the Flaine area right through to 27 December when I arrive with family. PM me if you want some more information. I was out there for the opening weekend of the season last year and although only the Flaine bowl is open, the slopes are very quiet and if there has been a decent amount of snow the skiing is very good.
