Poster: A snowHead

Hi, We are considering a family trip to Megeve in April (9-16) but are a bit concerned about likely snow conditions. Obviously understand that v unlikely to be any snow in Megeve itslef and that we will have to travel a bit, but wonder if anyone has experience of what historically it is likely to be higher up? The Mont D'Arbois area will apparently be closed then and would appreciate any advice from anyone who has been out to Megeve in April before, is there likely to be enough skiing to keep us amused for 6 days? Planning on going with Simon Butler Skiing who seem a friendly and professional bunch.
I know that there will be plenty of better places to go snow wise then but this is an additional week prior to a week in Risoul.

philipb, Hmm. Yes, there will be some snow, but it's certainly not the ideal resort for mid April. On the other hand, if you are going with Simon Butler, you will presumably be going out with them for lessons, and I guess if anyone can find you good snow, they can.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks pam . Yes those were my thoughts plus from everything I've read Simon Butler seem like a good outlet and it sounds like Megeve should provide a certain amount of non-ski entertainment too. We'll have a car so could visit other higher resorts if it comes to it.

philipb, There actually aren't many higher resorts round there (well, higher villages, but not necessarily higher skiing). The best bet if things are a bit slushy could be Les Contamines. The top of the skiing is east facing and holds its snow well. Or the Grand Montets in Chamonix. Yes, Megeve has a sports centre/swimming pool, a casino, some seriously expensive restaurants and a McDonalds. You'll be spoilt for choice. Simon Butler should be good, too (I did once enquire as to whether outsiders could join in their ski lessons, but the answer was no). The Combloux skiing will be closed by then, too, which is a shame.
