Does anyone know what it the most amount of countries you can ski into within the same resort. From avoriaz you are in France and can ski into Switzerland so that's 2, but there must be a resort where 3 countries can be skied into? Anyone know?

Milky way straddles France and Italy so montgenevre / sansicario etc.
From Courmayeur (italy) you can ski into France (CHamonix) and vice versa, albeit off-piste in both directions. La Rosiere / La Thuile also straddle the border.

If you ski from La Thuile, you can ski Italy, France and La Rosiere....that's 3 countries, right?

Not sure that the top of the hill where Italy, Slovenia and Austria meet is actully a lift served resort (doubt it), but there's certainly skiing a few km away. Could hike up and ski around in a 10m radius circle and ski all 3 countries in about 1 minute?
Is it possible to do Italy, Switzerland, Austria from Nauders?

Just pop up the Grands Montets (Chamonix) hike up to the triple border intersection and then just keep walking around in circles. When the music stops, ski down into one of three countries: Switzerland, France, or Italy.

Here's a four country tour:
1) Livigno, Italy
2) Davos, Switzerland
3) Lech, Austria
4) Untere Biber-Alm, Oberstdorf, Germany
Shouldn't take more than a week for the fit cross-country skier eh?

andy, isn't there a ski region in Kärnten that is called the 3 countries area? Nassfeld, Türracher Höhe or in that direction? They put in a bid for one of the Winter Olympics not so long ago.

I think some have missed the point lol!!! So is there actually any resort where you can ski into several countries, well more than 2 countries?

I remember reading an article in a magazine a while back about a man who, in one trip, skied the entire length of the Alps from the Maritime Alps in France to somewhere in Austria. That must have taken in a few countries - not to mention a few maps!
As for finding a resort that encompasses more than two countries - I think you'll be lucky.
Looking at a map I can only see 4 high tripoints in the Alps and none of these, AFAIK, coincide with a resort.
Mont Dolent : France / Italy / Switzerland
Piz Lad : Italy / Switzerland / Austria
Naafkopf : Austria / Switzerland / Leichtenstein
Unknown : Italy / Austria / Slovenia
Perhaps further afield?

There's been talk of expanding Pas de la Casa over into france, but I don't think any of the pyrenean resorts even cover two counties, never mind 3

Year and Years and Years ago... learned to ski in a place called Nauders, Austria.
In the summer, went on my DoE expedition to the same place, and joined in a local celebration of the Dreilandereckstein (Sp?) Walk - where we went to the stone marked with a three country border (Switz, Italy Austria?) high up in the hills. Still got the medal somewhere.
And if you can walk it, I'm sure you can ski it these days!

that's the slope they were talking of using, not skiied there for ten years though so didn't know it has been built
If you drop over the other side of that ridge does it link towards one of the french ski resorts? There was talk of that being lift linked eventually.

The resort is called Arnoldstein and the ridge peak where the 3 countries meet is called Dreilaendereck (Three Country Point) served by 2 draglifts, as Doss says no skiing on the Italian and Slovenian slopes, only back down the Austrian side. Here's a piste map and resort website:

In Banff (Sunshine) you can supposedly ski two Provinces (Alberta and British Columbia) in a single run, served by a chair called the "Intercontinental Divide" which sounds a bit like an oversell to me!

Big Dave,
Skiing from one country to another country is not the same as skiing from one province to another.
The signs, piste displays, chairlifts and foods are different!

Chamonix gets close. From AdM, a short skin takes you across to Hellbroner from where you can ski down into Italy. From the top of Le Tour you can skidown to Trient in Switzerland.

Done Claviere - Montgenevre
Ischgl - Samnaun.
Here's an obscure one -
Bovec Kanin (Slovenia) ---- Sella Nevea (Italy)
Currently I believe only the Italian side is open due to bankruptcy/lift problems on the Slovenian side.
The resort itself looks like it would be really good especially for Off-Piste skiiers if both sides were open, bit of a shame. Looks like its a bit of a snow trap too.

Not so much, perhaps.
Language - doesn't neatly change at the border, even if signs are generally in the National language, the spoken language may be either, particularly where borders have changed, I suspect.
Government - as many of those mentioned are in the EU, that depends on how much influence you attribute to the EU
Currency - legally as well as practically many of those resorts mentioned will share a currency; eg Fr and It both use Euro
Also not sure that food is likely to be that different a mile down the road; lifts are made by a limited number of companies, so why would they differ between countries any more than between resorts within a country?

@andy, no piste skiing between Nauders and Italy or Switzerland. Italy is ten minutes drive away and the nearest swiss skiing Scuol or Samnaun half an hour.

The difference can be more than you'd think. If you ski from Claviere in Italy to Montgenevre in France and go into a mountain restaurant only a few hundred metres from the border, you will find that they are selling French food and drink (at French prices - markedly higher than in Italy), and will have a television on tuned to a French channel, thereby exaggerating any local difference.

In terms of 'county to county' then at Yad Moss (and until last year Harwood) County Durham and Cumbria are skiable, whilst at Allenheads (with a bit of walking!) Northumberland, County Durham and Cumbria should be skiable
