Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Swiss Half Fare Card?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hopefully I'll be making a couple of trips on Swiss railways this season, so thinking about getting one of the Swiss railway half fare cards. I can't tell from the website whether you have to be a resident though, or if you can just pick one up from a train station when you arrive? The Swiss railway office in London will sell me a 1 month card, but it works out cheaper (and more useful to me) to have a longer duration one.

I did think about signing up for the Half Fare Visa card, but for that you definitely have to be a resident...

I think you have to be a resident as they send it in the post to a Swiss address - this might be out of date info though as only looked at it a few years ago.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You can pick one up at the station. You will need a passport + passport photo but I'm not sure if they will post it on to the UK, they issue a temporary one on the spot and will send it on within 7 days but it usually arrives quicker. You don't have to be resident but you may need Swiss Address.

Hope this helps

ChrisWo, Apply using the SBB website, print off the form and post it to them with the necessary bits. AFAIR you send it to Visp. Your 1/2 fare card will arrive at your UK address. I have one, and I'm not resident and did not need to offer a Swiss address. Of course T&C's might have changed in the meantime, but I do recall getting baulked by the online application because I'd not got a Swiss address or a permit.

Yeah you can get them at pretty much any station ticket counter for 150chf and they will send to a UK address and you don't need to be a permit holder, you will need a valid ID as above and a passport photo..they'll even cut it out for you with there special passport photo cuter, which is nice.

I've had one for many years - UK delivery is no problem once you've got the first one.

Yeah, funnily enough, it being called a "half fare" card, it gets you 50% off. By an astonishing coincidence, "half" is remarkably close to 50%.

These Swiss, eh? Cunning beggars.
