Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Piste maps on the iPhone are a waste of time.

Paper ones are free, they can be read with gloves on, read without an electron microscope (or taking your gloves off and pulling the zoom out so far that you lose the rest of the pistes), they don't get written off if they get dropped in the snow and they don't need battery life to let you use them.

I really love my iPhone but piste maps on it is probably the single worst idea ever.

And none of my ski apps have Valloire, either.

Got to agree, you cant beat the papaer ones when you're out there. The electronic ones aren't bad if you're trying to get an idea of a ski area before you choose a resort though.

boabski, itrailmap does have it but it is listed under "Galibier Thabor" (presumably following the same logic which made them call Alpe d'Huez "Grandes Rousses")

Paper one's are always the best, presuming you pick one up from the ticket office/gondola station etc that is. Once you're on the mountain they aren't that easy to come across, that's why it's always handy to have a back up. i.e. on your Smartphone.

On my HTC there is a free piste map app that has tonnes of resorts on, and as mentioned it's always nice to get a feel for the resort before you go. So I wouldn't totally write off the idea.

I don't have Valloire on mine, it's down as Valmeinier.

Arno, thanks. Would agree with all the sentiments. I have the resots I go to downloaded but have never used them once whilst away. My son, being a 13 year old though, will want any excuse to bring out the iPhone to show off to his buddies wink

There's an App called "Transit Maps" that's free on the App store. Although it is pitched as a means of downloading and reading rapid transit system maps, it is actually a neat PDF reader that will allow you to download the PDF piste map from the web and then display it with all the usual iPhone wonderfulness. I have just downloaded the full Espace Killy map and it works perfectly.
