Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Schladming at New Year

Any good? Usual snow conditions, atmosphere, etc. Doesn't need to be too lively as it would be just my 14 year old daughter and me.

I'm there before Xmas, will let you know but suspect it'll be too late for your decisions. Looking good so far http://www.planai.at/winter/en/Home.html (click live cam link).

milnerhome, No, never skied in Austria (although I'm also going at half term) before and only at New Year once in Canada. I've just found I can get away at New Year and have found a decent deal to Schladming.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

new year in canada seems to depend on which resort, lake louise was dead, practically nothing going on after 10pm.

austria comes alive, expect bangers to be flying all over, people holding roman candles whilst they fire into the night sky, lots of drinking and lots of happy austrians.. resulting in lots of fun Laughing an austrian new year is not too be missed.

milnerhome, Sounds good! What about the skiing at that time of year?

the piste which runs into Schladming (FIS slalom run) got seriously icy, made much worse by how many learners the ski school seemed to be sending down at the end of the day. That was after it had not snowed for a while though.

the Majority of the piste's were not icy at all and they had exceptional snow coverage for that time of year, we even got about 18" of fresh powder but with it being holiday season it was tracked out within a day, although pockets of the mountain remained untouched, which wouldn't happen on other mountains in the Alps. They do seem to favour the thin kind of skis. Laughing

if you can get a good deal then you should go for it, an Austrian new year is an experience not too be missed! check out the pizzeria in the centre of town! Laughing
