Oh come off it Lizzard. Last year was terrific, but both 2006 and 2007 (to name but two years in the last decade) were bad for early snow - see for example the pistehors report at http://pistehors.com/news/ski/comments/0741-retrospective-on-the-2006-2007-ski-season/
Resorts are empty in mid December, so when the skiing is good (as it most certainly can be) it's not difficult to make a late booking. Are you saying it makes sense to book well in advance for a holiday on December 11th in a domaine where much of the skiing is below 2000m?
Resorts such as Les Deux alpes, with high altitude skiing and a glacier obviously make much more sense for people who just can't restrain themselves from booking - but then it's absolutely grim up there at 3000m if December turns out to be cold and windy.
I don't think too many objective observers would cavil about a recommendation that people wanting to holiday in mid December should wait to book until they can see what the snow's doing. And that doesn't mean going hysterical with joy about a few white webcam pictures in October.

Early indications are that it looks a poor year to be going in December... very few resorts have a base and there was heavy rain across the western resorts yesterday, with rain right up to 2000m according to reports from Les Arcs

true, but a month is a long time for change to happen. I have no fear...

donovan7405, ah yes, I've just seen you're 19.
I never looked at weather forecasts or snow reports at that age, just turned up in resort and got on with it, whatever the conditions were like

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

yes it is. conditions now are not too relevant - a few years ago there was great snow at this point, and everyone got very over-excited and made wise remarks about a "good base". Till it all melted by early December.
