Hello All
Can anyone recommend a ski resort in Iceland, Sweden, Norway with a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights?
It doesn't have to be a great resort as we want to go somewhere to get a good chance of seeing the aurora but if we can tack on some skiing as well...
As always, any help greatly appreciated.

The Lyngen Lodge seems great but it looks like a real pain getting there.

Well worth the pain though!
We spent a week ski touring at Lyngen lodge in April and saw the northern lights on 5 nights out of 7
We flew from Gatwick to Riga, then on to Tromso, with Baltic Air. From Tromso it was a very scenic 2 hour transfer in the Lodge minibus, involving the crossing of 2 fjords by ferry.
Amazing ski touring, a brilliant lodge, brilliant guides and indescribable experiences of the northern lights. They went on for a couple of hours each night!

its down to to solar weather you could risk last minute booking and keep an eye on http://www.geo.mtu.edu/weather/aurora/ it has links to a number of sites that give you an aurora forecast, but they report its been quite for a few years on that front with only weak showings

Durham Red, Tromsø? I've only been there briefly in the summer. It seemed a really nice place, and it had skiing of various types. Scheduled flights from Gatwick too.

nordicfan, but tromsø doesn't really have a proper slope open at that time of the year - we were there the second week of december last year, and the local slope wasn't open yet. and the closest resort was a two hour drive away in the lyngen alps. the lights were amazing though!

Isn't the key word here 'resort '
We went to the Swedish Arctic Circle and combined an Ice Hotel stay with skiing at Bjorkliden and Riksgransen. A fantastic experience and great skiing, especially Riksgransen. However, we went in March - I don't think either of those ski areas opens until February (presumably because of the dark??). Riksgransen is then open into June for midnight skiing in 24 hour daylight.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Worked in Geilo for 5 seasons and have seen the Northern Lights on many occasions all throught the winter I even once saw them on a transfer back from Oslo and that was in December. Despite being quite small with fairly short runs it still has a good variation of terrain.
