Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

First Ski Trip planning !

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey i am trying to organise my first ski trip.

I would LOVE to go skiing near Geneva for two days.

1. Flights = £50 RETURN to geneva (going out monday, returning thursday) + £40 to put SKIS ON A PLANE -.- (just noticed the extra outrageous cost)
2. Hotel = Found one a few miles from hotel for £50 a night * 3 nights = £150
3. Lift pass = Its not exact but £30 a day? *2 = £60
4. Transport from geneva -> the piste (I have no idea can anyone suggest anything? is there any shuttle buses or coaches?)

Total = £300pp Not including food etc.

Does that sound REASONABLE to you skiers with experience? Or is this just a pipe-dream and costs are likely to SPIRAL.

Id like any advice you have to offer as i am new to skiing (only started in 2009)

Sainter,
My guess is that you will be better off finding a hotel near the skiing even at a slightly larger cost two return trips from Geneva is likely to be far more expensive than a slightly higher hotel bill and qhuite time consuming. Cheap car hire for a couple of days is often OK.
It will almost certainly be easier and no more expensive renting skis rather than carting them around with you.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Try www.ucpa.com for inclusive costs. You can get a 2 night stay inclusive of skis, lift pass, food, ski guide, for as little as 120 euro (£100) per person in the Chamonix valley. Transfers from Geneva to Chamonix valley can cost as little as 20 euro (£17) each way, £34 return. So in fact you could do it all for £50 + £100 + £34 = £184, leave your skis at home.

Sainter, a few more details would help. Is it really your first ever trip? If so, how come you have skis to take with you?

When are you planning to go? that makes a huge difference to everything. Your budget doesn't include lessons - are you not planning to have any lessons?

I'm so glad you've said this! I read it first thing this morning, and held off replying as I thought it was a wind-up. Apologies to the OP if it's serious, but.........
