1989 was a pretty snowless season in the Alps early on. Must be later season, Val d'Isere above le Fornet?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Looks Austrian to me. That rounded knoedel mountaintop reminds me a bit of Obergurgl, but I don't think that's where this is.

stanton, Normally, people who post this kind of "quiz" up, at least stay interested and respond inside 36 hours, give hints, encouragement etc. I don't believe you've ever been to wherever it is and they can't be your tracks because they are linked turns.

As a mere punter - and a recent one at that, I am amazed at peoples ski related knowledge on this site.

id put money on it that is North America somewhere...
the sun is v high in the sky yet there is very fresh snow on the trees yet the ridgeline on the right looked fairly bare of snow which suggests recent winds taking the fresh away yet the windlip / cornice is minimal which further indicates NON dominant winds. Im going to say somewhere like Lake Tahoe or possible around Delerium Dive in Banff. Chances are this photo is looking West if that helps anyone (tree right foreground - has most branches (facing sun) on the left hand side therefore we are probably looking south / south west / west here).
im going to be totally wrong but the above is a long punt!

kitenski, Correct. It is Kachina Peak, Taos. Except when I was there the snow was better, the tracks were better and I was better. Well I was better than I am now

1989 didn't get going in Europe till at least mid Jan (worse in 1990-the first big snow of the season fell on the 27th Janiuary!!!).
USA had some fine early dumps in '89.
I still have the dreadful dreadful Nevica that I thought was so cool.
