Has anyone skiied this resort in recent years or know much/anything about it?

I've been planning to go for years but never managed it. Heard that under the right conditions it's like a mini La Grave for offpiste skiers but it's easy to get into trouble if you don't know your way around.

It's probably not a resort to visit for the week though because if the offpiste is not good then you are not left with a lot of lifts or pistes to play with. Under the right conditions would be good for a weekend trip or a day trip from a nearby larger resort (e.g. Tauplitz). Would probably suit a family with young kids learining to ski where a parent(s) wants to venture offpiste.

I've heard from others who have been and they say it's one of those little family resorts that can be (depending on the weaher/ snow conditions) fantastic offpiste, downright dangerous with avalanches or just a couple of drag lifts, a chair and gondolas suitable for a day trip. They watch the weather / conditions and decide short term. Looking at the internet it looks like some lifts were improved back in 2008.

Maybe a better option will be to stay in Schladmin/Dachstein area a do a day off piste trip from the top of Dachastein glacier (lift accessed from the Schladming valley) down to Obertraun.
I think the day trip pass will include a list pass and organised bus back to Ramsau/Schaladming.
There are a few other off piste routes you can take from Dachstain and you can still ski the four Schladming mountians (over 100km lift linked).

A day trip is a good idea. As the crow flys the ski resorts Schladming/Dachstein are not far from Krippenstein but you have to drive round the mountains and past Tauplitz so it takes ca 1 to 1.5 hours hour by car. Tauplitz is around 30 mins drive from Krippenstein.

DB, By day trip I meant to ski down from top of Dachstein glacier to Obertraun. Tour 1: The Dachstein Crossing - Austria’s National Ski Tour.
And then back by organised bus included with lift pass. I think this is how it worked as some time ago I did some research.
So therefore stay in Schladming or Ramsau rather than on the other side in Krippenstein.

Yes I understand - was just pointing out to people here that although it's only just "over the hill "on skis its actually a long way in a car / bus.

Crossing the Dachstein glacier is among the most famous Alpine glacier crossings. Tour and descent are 21 km long and lead from the peak district of the Dachstein glacier via Simony Hut (2.203m) and Gjaidalm (1.805m) down to Obertraun (511m) on lake Hallstättersee. Including the travel to Ramsau the tour takes approximately up to 7 hours and involves 21 km of ski descent!

If it takes 7 hours there wouldn't be much time to ski in Krippenstein.
Although this link says it takes 4-5 hours looks like you go up on the lifts and then ski down to Obertrauen but it doesn't say how youget back and if the 4-5 hours includes the return journey.
