Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best UCPA for older adults

Hi,

I'm looking for somewhere to take my family skiing this winter, the week after New Year. There are eight of us, three adults and five children, all pretty good skiers. UCPA looks like it would be ideal for us, but three adults are all over 39! Does anyone know if they are strict about the age thing with a family group, or which UCPAs are most likely to be relaxed about it?

Not strict about the upper age really - minimum age must be 18+ I belive.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Action Outdoors says no children, but the UCPA website has holidays for children from six up.

I've just heard that Tignes doesn't take families.

Hmm, both centres I've been to (Flaine, Argentiere) have been 18-39 and while they've been a bit flexible on the upper end I've never seen any kids, and never any families. By the look fo the website there are special kid's weeks but these seem to be the exceptions rather than the rule.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I have a feeling that the only child skiing UCPA does are big group / school trip weeks for french kids - some of the centres have kids only areas where they host these weeks - that way, they never mix with the adult only population. The other typically french option for families, especially with younger kids, is Club Med - although about double the price! How old are your kids?

Oh well, looks like it's back to the CIS in Val Cenis then. They have a brilliant set up for families, with a little mini bus which picks up kids at the front door and takes them to class, and picks them up afterwards.
