yag_si_HS, why dont you arrange your own snowheads trip, purely to test out ski carrying gear? If you paid up front for 30+ people I'm sure you'd get the money back with people willing to go

Ok - I'll bite.
They transfer what is a fixed weight of about 6kg from a relatively wide resting surface of about 10cm across (with skis on your shoulder) to a rather narrower one (the strap). If you can carry your skis properly on your shoulder, tips forward, it is easier to do so. If you lack the forearm strength or balance to do it, or if you are like those countless numpties (mainly women and teenagers I am afraid) who not only cannot do it , but swing the bit of the ski behind you round from side to side like a drunk with a machete, then using one might be a good idea.
As to why they sell? People want to buy something cheap at ski shows, or as presents. I have never seen any decent skier I have skied with use one.
Nice Fish btw.

stoatsbrother, you know its easy to teach anyone to carry skis properly withing 5 mins, shouting at them for carrying their skis like a punter works no-end

stoatsbrother forgot to add that it is a key part of the central theme and many prospective BASI instructors fail every year on their ski carrying module. Usually those that have not experienced enough free carrying by over reliance on such straps.

One of these is handy, but I think there is probably a newer more efficient model.

Fabby
I suggest that a resort that is really difficult to get around would be best ?
How about Chamonix ? It has lots of nasty buses...
Here is the list so far

Batman_123 & stoatsbrother, also, by the time the ski-carry brigade have phaffed around putting together their Heath Robinson style carry gadget and skis, I've slung my ski's over my shoulder and am well on the way to my lunch or apres.

yag_si_HS, Tell me Chris, are you finding it difficult to flog a load of cheap straps around Bury St. Edmunds at the moment. I'll have a punt how much do you want for them?

As stated earlier in this thread, I suspect that the poster is not at all related to the company selling ski carrying gear, in fact I suspect he my be from *much* further north than Bury St Edmunds...

NBT your such a tease. So close yet so far.
This demonstration video sums up for me why all skiers should have proper ski carrying equipment
Essential viewing for all serious mountain users.

But none of the pictures showed people with rucksacks. That is a whole big group of serious mountain users who are excluded.

yag_si_HS, whoever you are (even if you're that odious, depraved idiot from just south of the M25) I think you have entertainment value and please carry on.
Ski carrying devices... my all time fave was the one with wheels that attached to the tails of the skis (via half a mile of straps) and immediately clogged up with grit/snow/horse dung etc and then you were meant to detach wheels and strapping and stow all alongside your lunch in the day pack. I actually met a bloke who chucked his job in to develop one of these systems. "Shoulders"... they're good.

Carrying skis on my shoulders is simply too painful. However, I have a method where I loop the poles round either end and use them as handles. That seems to work OK.

queen bodecia, Untill you're poles are slightly off centre and you end up picking the lot up off the floor, funny but annoying

stoatsbrother, My missus has developed a great technique, it basically involves the words "Honey, can you carry my skis for me? My knee/shoulder/back/other hurts." while looking sorry for herself. And when SidewaysJunior learns to ski, i'll be carrying his kit too. So i reckon that the best way to carry kit is to spend 6 months in the gym working on upper body strength. Or get a porter

Miss Radar, has the ski loop and thinks its pointless, it clogs up your backpack with unnecessary junk, that gets in the way of finding your lippy, sunscreen, three hats, sunglasses, goggles, neck warmer etc, she far prefers to carry her's by the "Daddiee I love you" method, works every time , we did have boyfriend along once he also discovered that she thought them pointless, as your so much more balanced when you carry two pairs of ski's. Oh she does help out carrying the ski poles yes i too am going through the summer boredom bit
