Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A bit off topic so apologies. Can anyone recommend a good and not too expensive knee brace. Im having my acl operated on next month. my lcl mcl are damaged aswell but possibly dont need an op. damaged them before 10 years ago and never bothered with the op but the most recent incident was far more serious. Im 30 now so will a brace give me enough protection or should I knock it on the head Crying or Very sad

theaulddub, My surgeon recommended a Donjoy or CTI post ACL op for skiing - I got a Donjoy and wore it for the few days of skiing then not since. Though it was fine it did take adjustment through the day (possibly a totally custom made would be better here) in the end I felt it was restricting free movement. I think this is just a personal thing.

theaulddub, I was given a Townsend Rebel Combined Instabilities brace when I had my ACL revised along with an LCL reconstruction and a resetting of the bones in the postereo-lateral corner (PLC injury). I had to use it for 2 seasons post-op but will continue to use it as it is so comfortable and fits perfectly under my ski gear and does not rub against my ski boots. It cost 500 Euros but was worth every cent. It is modular in design and can be mixed and matched by a qualified technician to exactly your leg configuration. The tech who fitted mine asked me to bring my ski boots in to make sure that the fit was OK for skiing.

This links to their main site. I exchanged emails with Mike Huston for a while and he sorted out a retailer and advised on what to go for. Excellent service and way cheaper than the Don-joy set up as well as more comfortable. I have used most of the major brands of ACL braces at one time or another in my career and have found the Townsend ones to be streets ahead of the others.

Sue wink

theaulddub, Those Lidl braces are so cheap compared to branded offerings why not buy one and see if it helps? If not you have only lost £6.99 if it helps yo have saved yourself about £30.00 Very Happy

Samerberg Sue, Thanks, I'll let the Consultant at our hospital know that. I'm sure he will appreciate the costs saved by the NHS in not providing them for his patients.

forwood, Yes, UK distributors are Beagle Orthopaedic, but you will need to go through an Orthotist to get one - I don't think they sell to the public.

I agree with that. You can get them through American online sites but fitting will be pretty hit and miss. When the tech fitted mine he had different calf and thigh sections to make sure that there was a perfect fit and that it did not catch on my ski boots.

forwood, Mine cost 500 Euro in Jan 2009.

Thanks guys. The other Q. I have is whether there are any import charges on these if ordered through the US?
