Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski apartment in Spain (Panticosa, Formigal, Cerler)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

Has anyone got any experience of organising DIY self catering ski holidays in Spain? We've settled on Spain this year, hoping to find nice bars but not-too-crowded slopes. Being vegetarian we'll need to have access to a kitchen, so we'll need an apartment. I'm finding that resort websites don't keep very comprehensive lists of available apartments, and those that are available tend to be of the rather expensive 'aparthotel' variety. Really we're looking to rent from a private owner, contacted through the tourist office. I'm getting scant information from the web generally. Am I approaching this from the wrong angle? Is apartment rental not the norm in Spanish resorts?

We're particularly interested in places near Panticosa and Formigal, or Benasque/Cerler.

Any advice?

Thanks, Liam

Draybs74, have you looked on the likes of Owners Direct, Holiday Rentals, Holiday Lettings etc?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Contact the Tourist Offices, they speak good English and are really helpful.......Formigal really is a relatively unknown gem with plenty of runs to keep you occupied for most of the week. The off-piste is pretty good aswell. Panticosa & Cerler are great for a days skiing and easily accessible from Formigal

Thanks both!

Anniepen - I have now looked at Owners Direct, and it came up with some good suggestions. Thanks for the tip!

Greycat - I didn't know these areas were quite so close together... can you recommend a nice town to base ourselves in? I'm thinking Biescas at the moment.
