Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

let him go on his cruise, you go skiing. I would need to be paid quite a lot of money to go on a normal sort of cruise (on a big ship with too much food, too many clothes and (shudder....) "entertainment".

Surely he must agree to some form of therapy/treatment....

3 weeks skiing plus cruise - might consider it (though very unlikely to happen here as all funds go towards skiing)

I love sailing (and have done several sailing holidays without my husband, who doesn't). So it's not that I don't like boats - I enjoy a canal holiday too - but I just can't see the appeal of a cruise. Being in your own boat, deciding where to go, feeling sick as a dog and still having to work, and arguing about who's turn it is to unblock the loo (and who blocked it...) is so much more enjoyable. wink

margaret, can you do both? I am with Lou, 3 weeks skiing plus cruise, fine Laughing

We cruise a lot and if you pick the right line, right ship and right itinerary and it's fab! Don't knock it until you've tried it Laughing

Having said that we ski 3 weeks a year too and I wouldn't sacrifice my skiing for cruising snowHead

Elizabeth B best cruising forum is Cruise Critic Cool

pam w we sail small boats a bit too, I love that or rather I did until we met with a Force 7 last week, maybe I am a wuss but it was Skullie At that time I would much rather have been on a big ship, I had the largest restorative G&T I have ever had that night Laughing

I'd rather unblock pam w,s loo than go on a cruise

Surely when you have a mid life crisis you start doing things too young for you rather than the other way (I did anyway)

we have done sailing holidays too (Flotilla). He did not like the joining in aspect. When we have stayed in chalets he has kept himself very much to himself. How on earth will he (and me) cope with a cruise? I loved the flotilla holiday and would have no problems with that, but to be held captive on a huge boat with lots of random people! At least in a ski chalet you have a common talking point, AKA skiing
I need good reasons to put to him why we shouldn't do it.
I have tried lets ski whilst we are fit enough and cruise when the knees give out....

sarah, yes, Force 7 is far too much in a little boat. The odd thing about sailing is that although you spend quite a lot of the time being scared or cold or wet or sick or bored (not usually all at once, but often more than one) it can be quite addictive. A bit like skiing, really.

margaret, have your ski holidays maybe become a bit "samey"? Maybe you should try something new? Find out whether there is something your husband has always wanted to try, but never liked to ask? Surprise him with a sexy new set of thermals?

Colin B, cruising is not for oldies NehNeh

margaret, if he is not very sociable then a cruise will be perfect for him, pick a large ship, he doesn't have to join in anything or talk to anyone if he doesn't want to. If you can still ski too then I would give it a go.

pam w, tell me about it spoo Actually I wasn't sick but felt it a bit, this was supposed to be a family flotilla in the Ionian, novice sailors for the most part and lots of kids most of whom spent that leg throwing up or crying Sad

As to the original problem the answer is compromise. Norwegian Fjords in Late March with a set of skins and a different hill each day. Cool

Now that is not for me to say. He maintains I am the only woman he ever wants in his life, but I cannot help but think maybe he does not want to ski with me anymore....
We have had a couple of family holidays where he has not had to ski with me, and enjoyed them. Bear in mind that although a cautious skier I will attempt most slopes and I have offered to go into ski school. When we have gone into ski school in the past we have been put in the same group although to be fair I have probably been at the bottom.
T Bar, in the summer I will walk up any number of hills or mountains just to see what is on the top, but if it is snowy, I want to ski (the easiest way with lifts!!)

margaret, is he a keen skier who finds you a bit slow? One possibility might be one of the intensive coaching holidays where you could each join in the right class for your own level - 3 hours or so in the morning, then you could ski together in the afternoon? http://www.snoworks.co.uk/

OK, I wasn't being serious about the thermals, but I do think that top quality coaching (and there are plenty of other possibilities, it's just that snoworks typically have plenty of different levels in the same week) makes a huge difference.

I have suggested a course, I would love to get to be a better skier, he does not take instruction lightly. I think that perhaps I am a "boring " skier but he is not that far ahead of me, dare I say it, just thinks that he is. He is not as fit as he used to be, and I think that he is finding skiing hardwork.

We are avid cruisers in the Summer (Royal Carrib, Celebrity ,P&O, etc). In fact we usually have three hoos per year - one ski one cruise and one other for the sun. Bit boring skiing all the time innit?

margaret, agree to the cruise, but only if you can both come to the EoSB... if there's a difference in your skiing levels then no problem, you'll both find accomodating groups. You can both take lessons of one sort or another. And the emphasis is split 50/50 between skiing and socialising - we're one big (mostly Wink) happy family!

Of course, you'd have to be do some more research into snowHeads as real people... so I recommend also the Birthday Bash for you in the Dolomites, early February Toofy Grin
