Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi Guys,
Sorry it has been so long since i touched base. I have been doing so much administration and planning since season end to decide what my future in this sport is.
I love skiing. Have been so lucky to call it my job for the past 10 years so this last month with my coach quitting, my head sponsor's contract coming to an end and the team still yet appointed was tough. If i am going to be completely honest I struggled for a while - I mean, I had my best season ever, ending top 30 in 3 disciplines and 8TH IN THE WORLD in one - and yet i felt like i lacked support.
And then a few things happened
a) i thought about quitting. It hit me hard and fast and actually suprised me. But then my passion for this amazing sport and my love to ripping turns over-ruled that quickly.
b) i realised there are still people out there who care and believe in me. SNOWHEADS - yes you guys!! Your generosity in funding the end of my season and continuing to do so makes me feel the drive and determination that every athlete needs. (I know and have read that some of you are unhappy with my apparent ungenerousity in receiving your donation but please understand that i have only just received your kind help so did not want to be pressumptious months ago and say thanks when your money wasn't actually destined to help me personally!)
In fact i am on camp now on my new equipment (watch this space big announcement soon!) in austria on the glaciers and i am here because of you guys - you have contributed to my flight, hotel and lift passes - for that i am super thankful.

Hope you are all enjoying a restful spring
all the best

Chemmy Alcott, glad to hear it. And ignore any of the negative stuff you see here. Just usual internet tosh.

By the way, don't worry - to avoid confusion we are going to have Shimmy Alcott killed. Toofy Grin

Chemmy Alcott, Glad all the little donations helped out. Yes, we DO care and believe in you. In our household we all wanted to do something when we found out about the cash predicament the children and I remembered skiing with you at Hemel Hempstead and even my parents chipped in. I still think its amazing that we have someone capable of ripping those slopes with the best of them when we aren't actually an overly snowy nation geographically. So more power to your elbow (or I guess skis!!). N.B. The kids were really routing for you in the rally car snowHead during an episode of 5th gear on the TV the other night. Very Happy

... well we have the talent and numbers trying to participate as a nation - we just dont have the commercialisation or the money to do it... it take the right athlete with the right funding from an early age to make it big time. Personally I am always trying to talent spot kids I teach and encourage them to take up racing (or freestyle) on skis or snowboard if I think they have what it takes. Unlike football for example it takes a hell of a lot to even get to amateur levels.

But dont give up Chemmy - you'll come back stronger and faster next season!

From Chemmy's latest blog (from NZ)...

After the hectic Olympics and having a great season end - ending up a career best of 8th in the World in Combined and top 30 in 3 disciplines I had intended to lay low, take things easy for a while. Committing to another Olympic cycle means another 4 years of hard, hard work. So I wanted an extended break to rejuvenate - more the mind than the body. Physically skiing is very tough but mentally its a battle - week in week out racing over almost 7 months is a tough schedule!

But I just couldn’t do it!

I love skiing.

And I miss it so much when I am at home doing dry land. So when the opportunity arose to ski a few camps with the GB Men’s Team I snapped it up. We had a slightly weather disastrous first camp in Kaurnatal in Austria in June before heading back home for a big, heavy lifting phase and endurance base improver. I have joined the SIS (not to be confused with the SAS although they do work us very hard!) which is the Scottish Institute of Sport. The set up in Scotland is amazing - the really do cater for every athlete’s needs and their facilities are amazing. I usually train at an old, rugby lifting small uni gym with a few deteriorating platforms and no windows so limited air flow. In scotland its immaculate! There are so many platforms everyone gets their own and always trainers on hand to help... so thank you so much for helping me this summer! I massively appreciate the support and very individual programmes and of course the mean, horrible, yet very necessary fitness testing!!

The next camp in Zermatt was awesome. I got to test all my new Atomic equipment on hard, icy, steep slopes. Half way through the camp I took the train across Switz to go meet the head of the Canadian Women’s Ski Team. The new federation, Mike Pilaski (our new GB head coach) and I decided that we needed to collaborate with another team in order to get the best out of our Women’s programme. The Canadian have a great set up, really knowing how to run a World Class programme having just hosted the last Winter Olympics and I was so excited that they seemed interested in having me and potentially the rest of the women’s team ‘tag’ along.

So now I am writing this from my first camp with my new team. I have teammates for the first time in donkeys years. Its brings another dimension to training. On the hill and in the gym we are as focused as ever but aside from that; living in houses together, cooking up big feasts ever night, it’s like I am back as school and hanging out with buddies - one of the girls has such an infectious giggle I feel like i must be a comic genius!!

For years skiing has been my life, my job and my love but now i realise it can be a lot of fun too!!!

Thanks to my new sponsors Atomic for all your awesome support this summer!
Thanks to the New Federation for creating such an awesome team and programme for me!
Thanks to the Mens’ team for letting me be an honorary boy for two great camps! (Missing the volleyball already!)
And thanks to the Canadians for treating me as one of their own!!
