Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

After many years of letting hire shops do all the work I am close to buying my own skis at last, have just been offered a really good deal on some 09/10 models without bindings. Being new to this ski ownership lark I'm wondering a). how to choose bindings and b). where to buy them and have them fitted. Any suggestions? Puzzled

what type of skis will you be mounting, what type of sking, and what DIn range would you want..

should be able to pick something up ion the sales, like http://www.freezeproshop.com/head-mojo-12-wide-ski-bindings.ir?cName=brand-head-ski-bindings

best bet is get them mounted at a place near you, so you can take you skis and boots etc in..shouldn't be charged more then 25 quid.

Skis are Stockli Stormrider VXL so freeride (86mm waist), skiing powder if I ever get the chance otherwise whatever's there, including ripping up the pistes GS style. Very Happy

DIN tends to be 7 historically though I gather should be setting it a bit higher these days doing more off piste... Puzzled

Sales look good but I don't know one binding from another...

Fairly skinny but not plated racing skis so I'd have thought most bindings would do the job. Generally I'd avoid cheaper Salomons or other high plastic bindings but largely a IMO.

Its a good idea to chose bindings with a DIN range so that your DIN setting is- more or less- in the middle.

Good evening, carroz. Smile

fatbob, 86mm is considered skinny now? Puzzled There was me thinking I was going gnarly! No wonder I liked them on piste. Laughing

Elston, Sounds sensible, although like you I doubt my body mass varies more than 5% no matter what I eat or how much I exercise. Smile

Elston, with modern bindings that's not an issue as they test just as accurately throughout their range.

Ok, so I got the skis and bindings (thanks papasmurf for the tip, very nice deal). I'm getting them introduced to one another tomorrow and assume there is nothing I need to know about where to mount them? I figure the 'standard' setting is fine?

They're absolutely no reason to go any further foward unless you want them more balance when you're inverted 20 foot up in the air...naturally mine are centered wink
