Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anyone purchased gloves where they can honestly say their hands have never got cold

I've skied 4 weeks this year and back at xmas it was -25 in Vald'sere and my hands were freezing for the first time in 4 season

Are there gloves out there to combat these conditions?

Suggestions would be welcomed

Thank you

Hestra Army gloves have worked for me this season in some really awful conditions.

I had to stop using my Levels as they got too hot.

At the end of the day they were soaked in sweat, which then froze as soon as I removed them for any reason, and then drying them out the pong started...

I've a pair of Marmot Exum work gloves & they're brilliant though i've yet to use them in anything below -20. However in saying that my hands have been toasty in them when it's been in & around -15. I'd also echo the hestra comments though they're seriously expensive.

1969jma, must admit I always thought black diamond only did mountineering gear, and I had thought these guide gloves were for ice-climbing, but they appear to be ski specific http://www.facewest.co.uk/Black-Diamond-Guide-Glove.html

Very warm and extremely waterproof.

Too warm for anything other than January/February for me.

To back up FlyingStantoni, Hestra all the way - every snowHead should have some Toofy Grin

As testimony have used them in Norway at -35 and had no problems.
Keep the leather supple and "fed" with leather balm and they keep the inside dry Smile The inners are interchangable to suit the climate - be it fleece, merino wool, silk or the standard thermal liner.
I like mine so much i am going to get another pair in a shorter cuff for when i dont need the full gaunlet.

1969jma,

I have the Army Leather Heli model from http://www.backcountry.com and got them a while ago because at the time the £ was strong ( Crying or Very sad those were the days) and they offered a whole range of colours - not sure what they carry now - worth a look though!

There are numerous stockists in the UK:

http://www.47degrees.com/PRODUCTS/Products-By-Brand/Hestra.aspx
http://www.edgeandwax.co.uk/.../Hestra_Army_Leather_Heli_Ski_Glove.html carry a wide range and seem to be able to special order - if you want a specific colour (see the Hestra website for what else is available)
http://www.skimarket.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=370 seem quite reasonable price wise.

The bulk of UK outlets do them and they all seem to be around £60-75. You may be able to find them cheaper but will no doubt involve a bit of surfing.
Would recommed that if you do get a pair you get some extra leather balm as the free packet you get with the gloves doesnt last long and i struggled to find it in France - Austria not a problem though.

cheers

Top range Hestra's are great, but you're better off with the mitt version for warmth.

I've never been anywhere quite that cold, but do own several pairs of gloves - my warmest are my Rossignol Goretex ones. Coldest so far experienced was about -15 in La Plagne this Jan. Hands were still toasty warm. I was surprised to see them being worn by lots of others too if that is any recommendation.

black diamond guide gloves or hestra army gauntlets are the warmest gloves i have ever used. both have removable liners although i find the hestras more versatile in this respect.

I'm watching this thread with interest.

My g/f suffers with Raynaulds syndrome ... which basically means that her hands/fingers are severely affected by the cold (i.e. turn white/blue and hurt like hell).

She's tried mits, extra liners, etc. ... and has even been given drugs by the doc (which didn't work very well and made her feel dizzy) ... so maybe I need to point her in the direction of snowpatrol's Black Diamond gloves.

As a matter of interest, has anyone tried any of the heated gloves that are out there?

abj, my wife has the same problem so I bought her some wristies, basically a fleece tube with a hole for the thumb, the main problem with raynaulds is that the cold air closes down the blood vessels in the wrist, so not enough circulates to the hands, hence the wristies http://www.wristies.com/

snowpatrol, cheers. I'll have a google, but any pointers would be great.

Sack the Juggler, I'll take a gander. I have heard that warm wrists = warm hands - so may be theseworn underneath some high quality gloves might do the trick.
