Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snap, horizon. (I should have said, he took both the photos.)

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

horizon, I wasn't saying it wasn't 40 degrees, more lamenting that my photos never seem to look as good as the subject deserves lol.

Cool line though!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

clarky999, no dig at you (in fact my recollection of the first pic that snowball posted is that it was below 40 degrees, but it's been a while).

In my experience photographing up or down a slope makes it look invariably less steep than in reality, and photographing it straight-on from a distance makes it look steeper (probably due to the perspective compression effect of telephoto). Hence I posted the two shots of that other couloir. It's worth mentioning that the guide didn't let us ski the last bit as it was too icy and narrow - he set up a rope and we sideslipped it while holding on to the rope.

Completely agree, I think the best and most realistic photos are taken when the skier is level or just past the photographer e.g.

compared to

The first is the top of Le Pyramide at Alpe D'Huez, pretty much spot on 35 degrees which I think it looks in the photo. The second is a little couloir much lower down that links that run into another, in that photo taken straight on it looks a lot steeper but in reality is probably about 30 degrees tops i.e. much shallower.

Meanwhile this is taken from just below the skier

It looks almost flat but in reality is about 30 degrees i.e. as steep as the second picture. Perspective can be a bug!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Could easily have been a bit less. I just said it could have been as much as 40º. The point was, 60º would look a lot steeper.

(Actually my memory was that the two slopes were not very different.)

GrahamN, that sounds like sense to me...

Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

That thing over there and I would point to the cable car. I would maybe go the extra mile and point to the base station and say that is where you get on. If they had been polite.
