Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Winning the skiercross crown in the Orange British Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships which are being held in Laax in Switzerland.

It was a huge adrenalin rush and you never lose the exhilaration of winning - even if you are 39-years-old!

Skiercross is fabulous and although it is a recognised World Cup event it is not yet an Olympic sport but I think it should be.

Boardercross will be making its debut at the 2006 Winter Olympics so I don't see why skiercross cannot be recognised in time for the 2010 Games.

I've spent a few happy hours watching Winter X Nine from Aspen over the last 2 / 3 evenings. Great television. Music, Graphics, Informed Commentators, Interviews, Sky Cams so you can really see who is leading in the cross events, a huge mix of events some technical, some head-to-head. Awsome skiing and boarding skills. A team skier/boarder cross event where the second slider's starting gate opens as soon as the first team member down crosses the finish line. Terrific stuff.
I was especially impressed by the cameramen on skis filming at speed from the hip giving superb close up shots in the thick of the action.
Personally I could do without the skidoos and motorcycle events but those without mechanical assistance all looked like great fun for the competitors and spectators alike. The final total of spectators broke records.
Quote:
On-site attendance at the event broke another record in Aspen, with a total of 69,750. The current agreement calls for Winter X Games to remain in Aspen/Snowmass through 2007 (Winter X Games 11).

Is this the way for snowsports to go? Is Alpine dying?

And another surprising story from the same event - a possible future British boarding champ. Jamie Nicholls winning at the age of only 11 and this is the 3rd time he has competed. Wow.
Full story again from BBC Sport

Pint-size Jamie Nicholls is competing alongside the big boys at the British Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships and has already claimed children's titles in half-pipe and boardercross.

Had to include a pic - he's so cute.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

kuwait_ian, the often heard comment from the 'mainstreamers' is that skiercross racers are usually failed alpine competitors wink

(Doesn't apply to kids coming into the sport, as with young Jamie, of course...)
