chrisdavis, I don't know it, "Club Hotels" are normally hite with your silent 's'. Hopefully yours won't be a T.Op. place run by 17 y.old 'seasonaires'
I've stayed in a 2* Italian hotel in Cervinia and although it was of course functional the food was amazing (if unusual) home cooked proper Italian grub "like-a mamma-used-to-make-a"

red 27, the food seems to be one of the problems people have had - although some seem to love it. It's flying, and is cheaper than our usual coach trip to Courmayeur (which is only 5 days/5 nights this year cos of the hokey Christmas departure dates). 2 for 1 lift pass, too... .

chrisdavis, The location is just about as good as it gets in Cervinia i.e. it's close to the cable car station so you don't have to negotiate the notorious steep walk up in the morning. When we were there, the food was pretty dire but that appeared to be down to the chef. We were also in Sestriere that year with the same TO (Crystal) and the food was very good: same menu – different chef.
The actual room accommodation was fine.

I think I've stayed at that hotel, It looks kind of familiar. Was it run by a scottish couple one season??
On chefs night off I'm sure we got a takeaway pizza and ate it in the hotel bar.

No recent experience. We were there in 2005 and just wandered into town and stopped at wherever looked OK; there are plenty of places.
One word of advice. If you go down to the town and the rest of the family (4 in my case) ask you to bring back bottles of coke, water etc, tell them to come along with you. The hill and the steps back up to the cable car station and then to the hotel will test your fitness when carrying a rucksack with 4 x 2 litres of drinks at what is a pretty high altitude

chrisdavis, 'Nuit et Jour' on the main street if you like steak. The guy who runs it is quite a character and a ski instructor too

For on-piste dining in Cervinia, you cannot beat Chalet Etoile. Probably the best mountain restaurant in the world?

We stayed at the Petit Palais this year - people were complaining about the food but I thought it was fine - the coffee was a bit ropey at breakfast, but hey it's Italy, stop for a nice one on the mountain! To be honest it isn't up to the standards of some of the more expensive places I've stayed but I didn't expect it to be and the food was still better than anything I cook, I'll ask one of the others where we ate out on the chef's night as it was very nice.

That was the best piece of advice I've ever had!! We had a great meal there - fantastic restaurant. We also picked up a free bottle of Pinot Grigio from Luca, cos we won the Crystal Quiz the night before .
Had a great week in Cervinia - the weather, snow and skiing were all excellent. The Petit Palais wasn't bad at all....there was an outbreak of vomiting, but that may have been down to the free shots on New Year's Eve.

Glad to hear that. We're heading to the Petit Palais with a group of 20 on Sunday!

chrisdavis, Ha! That's good to hear! Brings back many happy memories thinking about that place...
I was chatting about that place with my ski mates over xmas and we all remember it so well. When we asked for the wine list he just said "I am the wine list" What a character. The classic good restaurant, a limited menu - cos they stick to what they know and what they do best!
I must get back there myself next year, great place
