Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Buttering / tail/nose presses on a Burton Custom?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
How hard is this to learn, I'm a pretty competent boarder and just about have 5050's over medium kickers and f/s 180's over smaller kickers down. I realy want to learn to butter as I think it looks like great fun and I reckon with a bit (probably alot) of practise I'll be able to do it, in some sort of fashion. Thing is I've got a Custom 09/09 and its pretty stiff, is it too stiff do you think?? I am definately looking to invest in a park board as soon as I get the cash, but until then...

Also, are these guys on their skate bananas cheating somewhat?? Laughing

I've seen some riders use a custom for park but for me I like more pop and flex so I can jump around slightly easier. I'm no expert in this field as I'm just learning but when I hit the halfpipe I was thankful I had a soft board.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Custom isn't a stiff board really, pretty soft in my opinion. You should be able to butter on it without any problems.

I tried to learn tailpresses on my old Nitro Shogun (big, stiff freeride board). I was bent right over the tail, holding the tail with one hand and heaving up with the front leg. Nose was still only about 0.0000001" off the ground... rolling eyes

dont fall into the trap of I must have a banana board to butter. If you were crap before the banana you will still be crap after the banana.
Custom is a soft board. I dont like it one bit but it does do everything.
If you know how to pedal your edges buttering is just more weight and more pedalling.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

fair play, I've only really ever owned as I was always on poo-poo rental boards and learning, so didn't really didn't have a clue about the different rides of boards. Will give it a go.

Apologies for the horrific reply above, what I was trying to say (before I had a neural melt-down) was:

“fair play, I've only ever owned one board and was always on crap rental boards whilst learning, so didn't really didn't have a clue about the different rides / stiffness of boards. Will give it a go.”

Swirly, not bad, not enough riding and too much working but that's life.

I saw next years poacher today, it has a 7000 base, lovely. They still have this years in next years stock as well, weird.

Jonny luv plums, 7000, that'll be pretty quick. Seen a couple of this years in shops round here although for a lot more than I paid CHF1250 in one! Used it a couple of times, the first time out there was another guy on a splitboard, I'd never seen anyone on one before. It's good uphill and in soft snow, really hard work in hard bumps though, makes me look like a beginner.

Had some major kit problems this season, started with fooked bindings and ended up with a destroyed board: blown edge, base, core the lot. My spare is massively delaminating too so was glad to get the replacement today.

Swirly, my mistake, yours has the 7000 base, the other only 4000.

I've had major kit problems as well, too much of it. Custom V, ettala, sub zero, C02, contrabands, raiden battery. I've yet to ride the V Sad

Jonny luv plums, if only that was my problem after knackering some bindings (had to drill one off the board) this happened http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=60888&highlight=
