Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

... until my first skiing holiday. Off to Kitzbuhel for a week on Saturday and can't wait Very Happy

Only slight quandary now is that I've booked on "never seen skis before" course which includes lessons+equipment cos that was appropriate at the point I booked it. Since then I've made reasonable progress on the indoor slope at Hemel and reckon I'm going to well beyond remedial skiing 101, hopefully ready to get stuck into some blue runs at least from day 1.

So my choice is to pay an extra 70 euros or so to bump up into a better standard of lessons or crack on with a lift pass for a few days first and maybe see how it goes :/

Any tips that you wish you'd known before your skiing holiday much appreciated.

BigSoy, pay the extra 70 euros , the see how it goes approach is more likely to lead to bad habits which your muscles will be reluctant to change when your told what your doing wrong and you have to adjust technique.

Have a great holiday , the bug will really bite once you experience the the full mountian experience , 7 days for me , leave next Thursday for 10 days in Les Arcs , although hpefully be at Cairngorm this weekend for a powder fest if weather gods are good and give time to get the roads opened

wl, Congratulations for Saturday! Hope the weather gods are kind to you all; there is enough of the white stuff for the skiers and the bars have enough Black Magic to keep the revellers happy too...

Very Happy

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear - it was probably pay the euros to upgrade or bin the lessons entirely and see how I get on. (With a little bit of guidance from little bro who's v. competent... I know, I know... don't learn from a friend...)

Anyway, should be in the air in ~8 hours if all goes to plan so should get some fun.

snowpatrol sounds like fun

Well, back from my week in Kitzbuhel, first time on the mountain and loved it.

Was pretty much exactly the kind of holiday I enjoy. Am rubbish at sitting still and relaxing... so some sport, enough to build a good thirst for the evenings was right up my street.

Glad I followed the advice and ended up taking the extra lessons... if nothing else it was a great way to learn about the mountain and runs etc and was also sociable with a good group too.

In terms of the skiing we covered a lot blues and reds all over the mountain including the ski safari over to Pass Thurn which very cool.

In terms of my skiing - think the most important thing in terms of moving on from skiing indoors at Hemel was about understanding how to safely get around the mountain in a way which would allow me to get to the places I wanted to see... got that far so I'm happy.
