Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Love Snow, Live Snow Obsessive - - - - or Idiot ??

An 82 year old has just given up after skiing every day of the season for the last 24 years !!!!
After and during an amazing catalogue of injuries. A role model for our Masque perhaps. wink
Quote:
At 82, Schipper´s Cal Ripken-like streak of obsessively hitting the slopes every single day has ended after 24 years, or a total of 3,903 days.
Quote:
Over the next two decades, Schipper went to extremes to keep the streak alive.

In 1987, he traveled to the top of the mountain in a ski-grooming machine at midnight so he could ski down before driving 7 1/2 hours to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for his son´s graduation. He was back on the slopes the next day.

In 1993, he delayed the removal of a cancerous kidney to keep the streak alive; in 1995, he underwent bypass heart surgery during the offseason. Both times, he was back on the slopes when the snow began falling.

In 1997, a doctor created a special cast so he could keep skiing after a collision with a snowboarder broke his thumb.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Most of my injuries were gained in my youth and weren't skiing related, but I intend to keep going whatever the idiots in white say. This guy is an inspiration to us all . . . if just a little obsesive.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

And snowheads here are worrying how to get there, how long the kit will last, where to find a restaurant, strikes, overweighed skiers, people smoke, snowchains etc .................

kuwait_ian, Fab story, but I think he's been beaten by that surfer chap (also in the US), who surfed every day for more than 30 years - but that it EVERY DAY. I suppose the skier only skied when there was snow (no glacier I think on the east coast). Very Happy

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

easiski, he skied every day his resort was open so yes it's not quite as impressive as the surfer. Begs the question of whether he was actually safe on the slopes towards the end...

As he entered the new millennium, Schipper´s eyesight had become the biggest obstacle. He suffers from macular degeneration and glaucoma, and his depth perception suffered despite prescription ski goggles that he wore.

Now I know there are plenty of one-eyed skiers and drivers who can make adjustements for the lack of depth perception but this venerable old guy may not have been coping so well. Whatever, a fine achievement. snowHead

Fantastic. That's definitely the way to grow young. My ambition is to pop my clogs the day after my hundredth birthday while having ago at the Flying Kilometre in Les Arcs. Might be messy, but I'll be grinning from ear to ear.
