Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Any ideas for boots.....

My daughter has size 7 feet, tiny ankles and VERY wide calves, she frequently has had to ski with the top clip left undone as none of the hire shops seem to be able to find ones that fit . We have skied in several resorts now so it's not just the one shop. I don't want to buy yet as she's only 12 but wondered if you had any suggestions as to what to possibly ask if a hire shop stocks( if that makes sense!) Would be grateful for your help as she's off on a school trip and it would have been good to have some ideas before she went.

it might be possible to raise her feet in the boots a bit, with some kind of lifter under the heel - to lift the calves out of the boot somewhat. Also, make sure she uses a female specific boots, as these are designed to accommodate women's calves, which are wider lower down the leg than men's.

it could be worth hiring some boots in the UK before she goes - you could perhaps try Filarinskis in Havant, which is not far from you, to try to find something she is really happy with before the trip. Also, they hire out clothing at v reasonable rates.

nicky, have a look at soft ski boots, they tend to give a better fit arround difficult shaped legs, the rossignol soft boots or soft light boots might be suitable

nicky, I have much the same trouble....except I'm a little older than 12! Sad to say hire boots were never ever satisfactory...most hire shops don't do womens specific stuff.... and I found the only option was to buy. You could try S&R, they used to do a buy back offer for kids equipment - not sure if it applied to boots - but worth investigating. Otherwise, friends of mine find that the old style clam shells are a more comfy fit than the buckle up type when hiring....they're getting harder to find though.

Yeah an old style rear entry boot could help as there would be a loop for heel retention but also you might be able to fit a wide calf well too. If you were to buy a pair then simply moving the top buckle would solve the issue though i guess her feet might still be growing but i'd doubt much more than another size - as 8's are where most ladies boots stop.

Good luck

Ladies specific boots have a lower cuff height as women tend to have lower calfs. I don't know if you have been hiring womens boots but have a look.
I would stay away from rear entry boots, they have a tendancy to pinch lower leg if it is quite big.
Go to a ski shop that have specialist boot fitters and ask their advice. They will know what make of boot fits a certain type of foot.

homphomp, most of the hire shops we've used before have had ladies boots, in fact when my kids(boys) were younger, but their feet too big for kids siz\es, they often got Women's boots.
